Colorado State University-Pueblo (Political science)
My name is Kellie and I am currently a Senior studying political science at Colorado State University-Pueblo. I have been tutoring English, history, and political science since my first year in college. My tutoring career has consisted of working with a nationally-recognized program called Trio- Student Support Services. This program services individuals who come from very diverse backgrounds, who are typically first-generation college students who generally lack support. Often times, the individuals that I work with possess some type of learning disability, however, through patience and hard work, they find themselves being quite successful in the areas that they have had previous trouble with.
I have always been very passionate about English, and it is the subject that I have the most experience tutoring in. I love to learn, and I am planning on continuing my education by beginning law school in August. As a lover of education, it has been a goal of mine to help others, especially my students, to see the value in it, and to find a love of their own. During a typical tutoring session, I believe that it is very important to find the student's strengths first, and then to use these strengths throughout our time together. I prefer the student to be fully engaged and to be very interactive during the session, as opposed to listening to me speak through the majority of the session. By having the student explain their own thoughts guide the session, I believe that it causes them to understand information at a faster rate. I prefer to work in an environment that is laid-back, as to create comfort for the student. I like to make tutoring fun and stress free, and all of the students that I have had have grown to appreciate the subject of English!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
