I am a graduate of Colorado State University with a Bachelor's of Science majoring in physics. In addition I minored in both mathematics and computer science. These are subjects I greatly enjoyed and excelled in but I found myself enjoying passing on that knowledge much more than I did learning it. This especially applies to mathematics.

I tutored for all four years at college and I did formal tutoring for the university for two and a half of those years. During that time I acquired more knowledge and understanding of the subjects and students I tutored and I developed a patience that is required to tutor these potentially difficult subjects. I love to see students learn and I love to see a student finally understand something that they didn't before. Passing on my knowledge is one of the greatest gifts I can give in my opinion and it is the way I make positive change in the world. My teaching style revolves around creating fundamental understanding, fixing bad habits and helping students avoid the common pitfalls. I love giving students resources that I create and go out of my way to create those resources for students. I don't believe in the common teaching methods of memorization and doing things like a robot. I want students to think about problems and understand problems on a fundamental level so they can go on and do better in whatever they decide to pursue.

Having extensive experience in mathematics is necessary to do physics with confidence. Calculus and Algebra are the bedrock upon which that foundation is built. I use calculus every day when doing physics problems. Doing calculus has become second nature and I can perform it quickly and efficiently. In addition when I was tutoring physics I also had to teach some of the calculus as well to help students with physics problems. Calculus quickly became the subject I tutored most in college. though I only have two years of tutoring Experience in Calculus it is by far and away the subject I did the most during those two years of formal tutoring I did during my time at university. I had to learn how to teach calculus to a wide variety of students with a wide variety of needs and preferred learning preferences and problem solving styles. I know many different techniques for solving problems and understand that different students will solve problems in different ways.

I am a physicist by trade and physics is the subject I am most passionate about and the subject I have tutored the longest. I tutored physics and chemistry for all four years of my college career slowly increasing the amount of time I spent on those subjects with each passing year. Physics tutoring started informally with my classmates and friends and I moved up to tutoring offered by the physics department, which I did for two and a half years. I pioneered the movement that undergraduate physics majors can do the tutoring for the undergraduate courses rather than relying on the graduate students to do the tutoring. This paradigm shift changed our department for the better and gave opportunities to physics undergraduates to get their feet wet teaching. During that time I tutored all physics courses up through the sophomore/junior level courses. Chemistry tutoring continued informally but was supplemented and improved by my physics courses that delved deeper into some of the theory and details of modern chemistry such as thermodynamics. Physics and chemistry are two subjects that are tightly wound together and understanding one greatly helps understanding of the other and different students I learned respond better to different explanations offered by each of the different subjects.

Computer Science and Programming is a fundamental part to solving more complex physics and math problems and has been a big part of my life since I was very young. It was the subject I wanted to major in before I decide to specialize more in physics and mathematics. However I continued to do computer programming even well into my physics and math career and all throughout my time at university. This culminated in learning how to do computer graphics from scratch via a ray tracer. This was my greatest project I had ever done. A side project i also completed was a Pandora type program that mimicked the way Pandora worked just because I wanted to understand how it worked. Those projects gave me a great deal of experience and helped me learn how to read and diagnose code. This helped greatly when I had to tutor my fellow physics majors in computer programming for their classes. Computer programming was required for physics but most majors were not as experienced as I was so I ended up teaching and tutoring computer science and programming for them so they could pass their computer science and physics classes more easily. Some physics problems are much more easy to solve with a computer program than by hand and as a result I became very effective at reading the code made by a different programmer and helping them diagnose their problems. It was one of the most rewarding experience I ever had teaching my fellow classmates how to program.

I love to teach and tutor other and I love to see students learn. I want to see students succeed and will work with you until you understand whatever you are struggling with. I will remain committed with you for the long haul and will use any resources at my disposal and tailor my teaching methods to your learning style.

Pre-Calculus

Andrew was great and very detail oriented. The only problem is we had technical issues, cutting in and out. Andrew was great but the online process just didn’t work out for me.

Looking for someone to explains thing clearly, Andrew is your man!

Very easy to understand. Andrew is able to provide multiple examples of solutions so you can understand the problems you are trying to solve. Thank you very much Andrew!

Keith, 1 lesson with Andrew

Andrew is very knowledgeable and patient!

Andrew helped me review physics concepts on rotational motion and equilibrium/dynamics. He was very patient and extremely knowledgeable! He was able to explain the foundation of the chapter in simpler terms and helped me with questions I had trouble understanding. He even spent extra time helping me set up another physics question even after our session time slot was ended without rushing me. Would definitely recommend him as a tutor.

Patient, Highly Knowledgeable, and Accommodating Tutor

Andrew has taught my daughter college-level physics in an accessible and comprehensive manner, ensuring that she understands the relevant concepts throughout the lesson. He has always accommodated her schedule and has been very patient and understanding for both the scheduling and teaching aspects of the experience. Thank you, Andrew!

Anu, 3 lessons with Andrew

Very good teacher

My daughter really liked him and said he really seemed to know the material very well. He helped her to clarify things in her geometry work that she had difficulty with. Would definitely book again.

What a great tutor!

Hands down, Andrew is the best. He is very knowledgeable of physics and is highly skilled in disseminating the information in a way that is easy to understand. The only bad thing I can say is that..... He's not my actual professor and I wish he was - lol!!!!!! If u are struggling with Physics, Andrew is who you should choose!!

Danielle, 14 lessons with Andrew

Knows how to not only teach math, but instill confidence in student's ability to do it on her own!

I think Andrew has covered it all between my two kids - an IB freshman and an IB senior; from algebra and trig to calculus and statistics. He encourages confidence and has helped both remember that they like and know what they are doing in math. He is professional in his scheduling and follow through. And his rate...Don't tell him I said this but we have paid tutors much more per hour and have gotten way less back!

Christy, 15 lessons with Andrew

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Andrew is awesome. Very professional, doesn't waste time and can explain topics several different ways. He is very thorough and makes sure the student understands the concept before moving on. He will also ask questions later in the session to make sure the student understood the concept. He is very prompt in replying to emails. An excellent tutor!
