BA, University of Colorado Boulder (Biochemistry)
I graduated from CU Boulder in 2016 with a B.A. in Biochemistry and Chemistry. At CU Boulder, I was a professor-appointed tutor for fellow biology/chemistry students, and assisted in exam review as well as lab report writing. I specialize in facilitating comprehensive understanding of the material by working through problem sets and practice exams with my students. I also focus my efforts on cultivating critical reasoning skills that will continue to benefit students far beyond the duration of a single class.
In addition to my collegiate science courses, I spent much of my time at Boulder engaging in my history and political sciences classes. As such, I have experience in advanced comprehension, literary analysis, and essay writing. I earned an average grade of an "A" in every term paper I submitted at Boulder. Furthermore, by working as a research fellow at NIST and as a member of CU Boulder's Tan Research Group, I learned how to evaluate professional, scientific research papers. Subsequently, I am able to provide professional-level essay proofreading, as well as advanced instruction on how to strengthen reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary skills.
Prior to my time at Boulder, I was employed as an independent tutor and specialized in teaching/mentoring high school students. I took multiple AP and honors classes in high school and was frequently called upon by teachers to lead study groups. I understand how overwhelming AP/honors classes can be for high school students. In order to ease that anxiety, I focus on strengthening a student's understanding of foundational concepts by slowly re-teaching the material, typically with visual aids and practical examples. I also understand that procrastination can be an issue with students, and thus work on creating efficient study plans that facilitate maximum comprehension at a relaxed, manageable rate.
I received an average grade of an "A" in all science course taken at CU Boulder, have experience in 10 lab courses at Boulder, was a tutor for fellow science students, and took multiple AP and honors science classes in high school.
In high school, I was often selected by teachers to tutor fellow students, scored 2100 on my SAT, and have scored in the 90th percentile range on my practice GRE exams.
I am passionate about teaching because my life has been changed by kind, patient, and knowledgeable teachers. It is my goal to see a student's confidence and comfort-level grow. I strongly believe that education is the key to a bright future and will stop at nothing to ensure the success of my students. I understand the source of student anxiety, and work to understand your personal needs. My schedule is flexible and I offer online tutoring. Don't hesitate to contact me- I look forward to learning how I can help you reach your academic goals! I graduated from CU Boulder in 2016 with a B.A. in Biochemistry and Chemistry. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
