About Laura

I have been teaching for over 20 years and still love my job! There is nothing more rewarding then helping students discover and achieve their goals. I believe every successful learning experience begins with creating an environment where students feel safe, respected, and motivated. This is achieved by guiding students to discover and maintain their strengths, while challenging them to learn and apply strategies which will address their individual needs.

I have taught all ages of students from 5 - 65 years old. I have taught in a public school setting, a private school setting, online, and overseas. In each experience I have gained valuable knowledge and insight about the importance of recognizing different learning styles, as well as what motivates individual students. I pride myself on my ability to identify these characteristics and create a learning environment that is positive, flexible, and fun!

I have a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in culturally diverse education. This degree allowed me to work with ESL students, K-12, who needed help in English to access content in their core subject areas.

I also hold a TEFL certificate which enables me to understand and help students at all levels and ages of English Language learning. I have taught English both online and in person.

I have taken a rigorous TOEFL iBT teacher prep course which has allowed me to help international students receive the necessary scores to achieve their goals. I tailor the course to address each individual students' needs after a careful analysis of a diagnostic test. I then create lessons and coursework in all four skill areas that will target specific tasks for improvement.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science with a teaching certificate in Elementary Education. I have taught students in all grades of Elementary School, and all subject areas. I am familiar with Common Core Curriculum as well as how to read, understand and help students produce the necessary outcomes for Standards Based Education. I have experience teaching students below grade level in all subject areas, as well as those who are struggling to reach their potential.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goals. I feel confident that together we can create a positive experience which will enable you to be successful!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Education. I have a current Professional License from the State of Colorado. I taught in the St. Vrain Valley School District for over 15 years and am currently a substitute for the district. I am familiar with State Standards, Common Core Standards, WIDA Standards, and various forms of assessment; formative, diagnostic, achievement and proficiency. I have been involved with the planning and monitoring of IEPS, as well as served on Response to Intervention committees. Most recently I worked with ESL students in a classroom setting.

Excellent Tutor

Laura met with me about 16 times while I was in Broomfield to brush up my English, which is a second language for me. She analyzed exactly what I needed and then patiently and effectively helped me improve my pronunciation and understanding of English. She is also a very kind person and made me feel very much at ease.
