I have utilized custom student tailored teaching approaches for highly effective communication and delivery of course material for the teaching of mathematics, electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, biology and business principals and fundamentals. To accomplish this important goal of teaching during my learning sessions with students, I draw heavily from over 30 years of engineering experience and teaching while working at IBM research and development laboratories and Hewlett Packard advance engineering programs. And have been a successful engineering tutor for 30 years and college tutor for four years. I have benefited from going through the required effort to obtain undergrad degrees in electrical engineering and pre medicine, and additionally earned a master of science in electrical engineering and a master of business administration.
Additionally to the above experience I have had as a teacher and tutor I also have published learning manuals and internal confidential papers during my professional career as both an engineer and as a scientist. I was a key liaison knowledge conduit for the research labs. My mission was to translate extremely complex concepts that were written by PhD’s and others into understandable concepts that could be built upon by less trained and disciplined individuals. I had to teach to people that were willing to work only so hard at grasping these new ideas as they had to. So my teaching skills had to include making sometimes boring conception’s interesting and exciting to learn. This was no easy task.
My approach to teaching difficult material to hungry minds has been to first understand what they do know before venturing out into the area that they do not understand. Teaching can best be optimized at the individual level when you first understand what they have been able to learn and how they accomplished it. You can then begin to build upon existing learning skills and add to them as necessary. Everybody has desire, even hunger, for new knowledge, it is a matter of tapping into existing motivations and building upon them. Additionally, students are often frightened of new and difficult material and falsely believe that they are not smart enough to learn the material assigned to them. Building up a student’s self-confidence breaks down learning barriers so knowledge can be acquired and deeply understood. I build up their confidence my assuring them they can "get it" if they take it in small steps. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have ten years of experience as a project manager at IBM and Hewlett Packard, responsible for business operations, planning and resource management. I also have a MBA with emphases in business management and financial planning.
I have undergraduate degrees and a masters degree in electrical engineering and device physics and mathematics. I also have 30 years of research and development experience in engineering at IBM and Hewlett Packard. And many years of teaching this subject.
Extensive education in calculus, linear and non linear statics, linear and complex algebra, trigonometry, geometry, Matlab modeling. Additionally many different mathematical solver programs including Mathcad.
I spent my career as a communications scientist investigating existing and new algorithm approaches. I have been using Mathematica for almost 30 years when it was first introduced for the first personal computers at IBM were I was working at the time. I have an extensive background in applying the math modeling tool to solve complex problems.
