I have been a member of the WyzAnt community for nearly four years, during which time I have worked with several students of various abilities - including those with special needs - grade levels, etc. Each and every one of them has become my friend as well as my student. I love bringing passion and purpose to learning.
Prior to launching my freelance tutoring career, I spent the preceding six months as an AVID tutor with my local public school district. In the course of any given day, I have been called upon to help students (junior high and high school) with math, history, science, physics, and English questions. In the final month, our coursework particularly emphasized ACT/SAT and AP test preparation.
I love teaching, and I love getting to know my students. I consider them my peers and friends as well as my teaching subjects. I have a passion for history, but have also studied the sciences extensively. I also know American Sign Language and Spanish in addition to my native tongue (English). I am anxious to share my passion for my favorite subjects and learning in general with those I tutor.
Along with my work as a WyzAnt tutor, I am also employed as a tutor with a local school district. I help students who are registered in online courses with time management, goal setting, academic questions, and more.
I am relatively new to Colorado, where I am currently seeking a master's degree in education at the University of Boulder. As I learn, I will be able to serve my students even more efficiently than before!

During our first visit with Karli, she immediately made my daughter feel comfortable and took the time to understand her needs. They got right to work on the session and made the most of the time they had together. She makes sure the student understands the material before moving on to the next subject. My daughter also liked the interactive approach combining demonstration of the subject with having the student also do the work themselves. We look forward to the next session!
Karli Was professional, patient & instrumental in my now knowing how to cut & paste, transfer to desktop & documents, submit resumes, edit, add resume.
Karli is patient and friendly and really connected with our son right away. But what's more important than that is we're seeing great results. English was his worst subject last year and with Karli's help that's his highest grade so far this year! We highly recommend you give Karli a try.
Karli has been tutoring my daughter for a little more than a month now and so far it's been great. My daughter has a tough time academically and can stay on task with Karli.
Karli is great at diagnosing the problem. She is also very creative at coming up with various visual or hands-on teaching methods. Energetic, creative and flexible. Great tutor.
Ever since Karli began working with our eighth-grade daughter on her Math skills, we have seen such an improvement in our daughter's confidence and grades! Karli has a wonderful approach, a good attitude, patience and strong knowledge of the subject area, all of which have helped our daughter gain more confidence and comfort with the subject area. I highly recommend Karli as a tutor!
My son has only had a handful of lessons with Karli and has shown tremendous improvement. Karli is easy to communicate with, efficient, and accommodating. Thank you, Karli!!!
Karli has been a guiding light in my pursuit of learning my ASL sign language. I thank her in so many ways, she has helped me so much. Karli, I thank you. Good luck in your future. You're the best.
Karli is great. Friendly, energetic. Our daughter has responded well to her and is learning in better ways. Her confidence has improved. Thanks Karli!
So happy to hear it! She is a bright girl and a joy to work with.
This was our first session, but so far we are very pleased. I'll post another review after a couple weeks updating our progress.
Karlie has a very hands on teaching style that really engages my daughter. She has proved to be prompt, reliable and knowledgeable. She relates to well to my 11 year old and prepares her for math all while while building her confidence. We have been very pleased with her and am very glad to have found her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have several years' experience working with children of all ages. I am familiar with Kindergarten through 6th Grade topics, such as elementary math, general sciences, reading, writing, spelling, and so forth. I have always been an avid reader and writer, especially as an elementary schooler myself.
I have recently spent several months working with Junior High Schoolers in a public education tutoring program. While somewhat outside the scope of K-6, it has enabled me to touch on and brush on subjects often first broached in the elementary school years. I have also learned to tutor these students as a peer as well as an adult role model.
I studied two courses of American Sign Language while a student at the University of Utah. My professor was passionate about his subject and helped us understand Deaf culture as well as actual Sign Language.
I can converse in Sign Language and have taught it on several different occasions, to groups of varying sizes and ages. I also use Sign Language at home, as my husband has also learned it. I have the advantage of having learned "academic" Sign in the classroom, and conversing with him, who knows more "slang" or conversational Sign.
I enjoy teaching Sign and have had fun helping my students learn to converse with it. It is very rewarding to be able to express yourself in many different ways.
I believe everyone has their best fit for method of study. Some people are auditory learners. Some people learn best by doing; some by reading about it. The key to developing good study skills is to decipher how you learn best.
However, some standards in study skills are the same for everyone - and they are equally important. I teach skills like having a set study time, consistency, and how to maintain focus and attention.
I have spent many of the last several months helping junior high and high school students learn how to study and do their homework more effectively. This maximizes the learning that is obtained by such projects.
Anyone can be smart if they learn how to study right.
