Oregon State University (Computer Science)
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, and I am an active volunteer in my son's advanced math class. I have worked as a tutor for children of all ages and abilities, as well as adults, both one-on-one and in groups. My goal as a tutor is not just to help you with rote learning, but to help you understand the underlying logic of the correct answer so you can succeed when a question or subject takes you by surprise. And most importantly, to help you gain confidence in your own ability!
While my favorite subject is math, I also love writing, reading, and computing and would be happy to help anyone with any of the active subjects in my profile. I look forward to working with you! I will gladly give discounts for group and/or multiple hour sessions.
Tim helped my son with some algebra concepts that he could not quite grasp in the classroom. Tim is very patient, going over the concepts as many times as needed so that my son was able to understand and complete similar problems on his own. Tim is able to teach the concepts in more than one way, customizing his teaching/examples to how my son learns best. My son feels more confident in his Algebra class now thanks to the extra help Tim provided.
Tim is very knowledgeable in C++ programming, with his patience and guidance, I gained the confidence I needed.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am very comfortable with algebra at all levels, and really love helping kids and adults understand how to set up equations and find the value of the unknown variable.
I have tutored kids in middle and high school, and at the junior college level for several years (though I'm new to WyzAnt), and help my own kids in this subject.
I look forward to meeting you or your child, and helping you/him/her succeed with this subject!
I have a bachelor's degree in computer science, and we studied mostly C++. I also worked for over nine years at a software company that specialized in C++ libraries for application development. So, although I was not a software developer for some of those years, I have a strong understanding of the language and can help people with any basic to moderately difficult programming tasks.
I love math, and have been tutoring home-school students and GED students for years. I am also an active volunteer in both of my sons' math classes (2nd through 6th grades). I can help your son or daughter succeed!
Math is a fun subject, but not if you don't "get it". Let me help your son or daughter truly understand the process, so they can go from struggling to really enjoying their math classes.
Computers are anything but intuitive, unless you understand some of the inner workings of the machine. I can help you understand how, and more importantly "why", they do what they do, to make general tasks with a computer simpler and more enjoyable.
While geometry is easy and fun, it can be difficult to learn from people with certain styles of teaching. Whether you are learning elementary or college-level geometry, I try to adapt my explanations to you and your own particular learning style, so that you really "get it".
Setting up equations can be difficult at first, so lots of kids need some help in this area. I can help make this subject understandable and fun! And I look forward to making your child a success.
