With seven years of elementary teaching experience and many more as a substitute, I enjoy helping students with any type of background or skill. I have taught in Japan as well as in economically diverse areas in California and Colorado. I enjoy helping students learning English (ESL) or those simply wishing to improve their reading or writing. If a student is having trouble in a certain area I will do whatever I can to help them. My experience has taught me patience, kindness, and persistence are essential when teaching. Students need to know you care about them as an individual before they will learn anything from you. I will always do my best to be effective and helpful, no matter the situation.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am an experienced elementary school teacher. I taught one year of sixth grade and six years of fourth grade in California before relocating to Colorado. In Colorado I have substituted since moving here in 2003. I have a current Colorado elementary teaching license.
In addition to my elementary teaching certification I have a license in teaching english as a second language (ESL). My experience in this area includes teaching in several locations which included a diverse background of students, many of whom were learning english as their second language. Besides teaching elementary school and having a vast knowledge of teaching ESL, I lived and taught in Japan.
Through my vast experience I have learned what it takes to become an effective teacher: patience, persistence, kindness, and dedication.
I have a wide and varied background in teaching English as a Second Language. I have taught in communities with diverse backgrounds as well as in Japan. While in Japan, I taught conversational English to adults. Then, upon returning to the U.S. I earned full certification in linguistically diverse education. In addition, I have a deep knowledge of teaching methods and practices.
I have an elementary teaching license as well as a background in English. I have taught fourth grade for six years and substituted in grades K-8 for ten years.
Throughout my life I have learned to use study skills to succeed. These include prioritizing the most important tasks, highlighting key concepts in notes, finding quiet places to study, and using resources such as other people and reference materials to assist me. In addition, when I attended high school, college, and universities I sought out other students to study with and learn from. Finally, I believe earning a BA degree as well as a teaching license shows I know what it takes to succeed and achieve.
