BS from University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Elementary Education)
I taught 2nd grade for 4 years and 3rd grade for 5 years. I am now a stay-at-home mom of 4. I have had a few private tutoring jobs in the past and would love to do some more. I love sharing my love of learning with others. Two of my favorite things about teaching and being a mom is the look of wonder when a child learns something new and the look of accomplishment when a child conquers a skill that had previously been difficult.
Reading and math are my two favorite subjects to teach. The one-to-one interaction of tutoring is something I enjoy. I know some kids need additional help that a teacher isn't always able to provide in the classroom, and I would love to be that help.
I grew up around math because my dad was a high school math teacher. I am qualified to teach elementary math and feel comfortable with middle school math and algebra 1.
I've loved reading for as long as I can remember and love helping others discover their own love of reading. I am qualified to teach elementary grammar and reading. I can help with pre-reading and beginning reading skills, reading comprehension, and basic grammar skills.
I look forward to meeting you. Contact me for more information and to schedule lessons. I ask for a 6-hour notice for lesson cancellations. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a 2nd grade teacher for 4 years and a 3rd grade teacher for 5 years. I have tutored several elementary students. I also worked with an after-school program for students who needed additional math help.
