About Linda

Hi I'm Linda S. a certified Colorado and Texas Teacher with 9 years of teaching experience. 3 years of that with International Primary Years Program and Cambridge Curriculum in Qatar, Panama, and Mexico City just recently. I have moved to Colorado recently and want to continue tutoring privately. Currently I am teaching 4th grade. I have tutored kids in 3 other countries focusing in phonics, reading, comprehension and writing skills and Pre-K through 8th grade..mostly working with second language learners or those behind in some school subjects. I am a strong math and science teacher also and can provide your child with all around help in most subjects. I am a master at doing a variety of tutoring activities to help your child stay engaged, focused and get the most out of each session. Skills focused on may include, reading fluency, word building, sentence structure, using hands-on manipulative's as much as possible, and even exercise with learning. (I also have a strong PE/ Health background). I have 4 Texas Teacher certifications: EC-4th grade classroom teacher, Gifted and Talented- all grades, English Second Language- all grades, P.E. all grades and 2 Colorado Certifications in K-6th grade and P.E. all levels.

I also have years of teaching experience with both students that have special needs physically or academically whether they seem to be needing to develop some skills OR they are advanced and need to utilize their talents and desires to keep moving forward in their learning. I worked in the medical field for 17 years prior to becoming a teacher and could help older students with pre-med or physical therapy coursework and I love working with all ages in learning English. If you are new to the US or just want to improve your business or medical English I would be a great tutor for you also. I look forward to meeting with you or your child and I am confident I can provide results.

Simply, living in 3 other countries in the last years and having to work and teach kids from many different language backgrounds including Arabic, Spanish, Korean, Sri Lankan, Hindi, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Romanian, and other European and Eastern Languages.

Six years experience with Dallas and Irving I.S.D. with hundreds of hours training how to be an effective teacher and then expanding to overseas and International curriculum which usually still tie nicely well into the U.S. Common core standards.

This is my main area of expertise since it is what I have taught the most in my formal teaching career. As listed earlier I am certified in EC-4th grade, Gifted and Talented, and ESL.

I worked in an alternative Elementary school in Irving ISD for 3 years. Most kids here either had diagnosed or many times un-diagnosed learning challenges or were gifted and talented students. I worked in a small classroom setting at this school, went through many seminars and training, and learned many skills to work with kids that could not focus, had excess energy, had emotional issues or were just not confident in school.

B.S. degree is P.E. and Exercise Physiology. Worked as personal trainer, in cardiac rehab and Physical therapy and wellness center for my first career of 17 years.

I am open to any questions about my knowledge and background and resist taking on clients I don't feel I can help. I have always had successful students that improve quickly as long as they work both with me and on their own if old enough and parents and siblings. I believe tutoring is more successful if done 2-3 times per week for a shorter time period to get skills up to speed and routine and habits in place.
