About Amanda

When entering college there was no question about what I would major in. I have had a love of teaching from a young age. I love getting to help children develop a love for learning. I have my Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. I have taught Kindergarten two times, and have a year and a half of experience in Preschool and have recently been working with 1-2 year olds. I had two students that I tutored in STL before we moved. One was diagnosed with ADD and I tutored him from the end of Kindergarten to the end of 2nd grade. The other was a starting Kindergartner that I tutored to make sure he was ready for Kindergarten.

Teaching and tutoring are both rewarding but having done both I find tutoring so much more rewarding. I spend so much individualized time with my tutor students that I am able to see their success and growth more easily. Tutoring has brought me many memorable moments and celebrations. When I am tutoring I am fully invested in my students and what they need. I am willing to work with their teachers or anyone that works with them as well to be continuous where possible. I have missed tutoring since moving to Colorado and I am very excited and eager to help other students find their love of learning and to succeed.

I have taught two years with Common Core Kindergarten math, while also tutoring in math for K-2nd grade.

I have taught two years of Kindergarten with a huge emphasis on teaching reading. I had a student with ADD, from Kindergarten to Second grade, that I tutored in reading and raised his reading score and created his love for reading.

I have been working with and teaching Common Core since I was in my Education Program in college. I have worked with Common Core in Illinois, Missouri and North Carolina.

My degree is in Early Childhood Education, I have worked with children from 6 weeks to 3rd grade, two years with Kindergarten. While also tutoring a student with ADD from Kindergarten to Second grade, focusing on handwriting, reading and spelling.

I am looking forward to helping any student get the tools that they need in order to succeed! If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me. I hope to work with you or your child in the future.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I have been using Common Core Curriculum since I was in my Education program in college. I have since used it when teaching Kindergarten in North Carolina and Missouri. I have had teacher trainings through my previous school districts on how to use Common Core and the purchased curriculums. In North Carolina Common Core was the main topic of our staff meetings and institute days. . I have my Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. I have taught Kindergarten two times, and have a year and a half of experience in Preschool and have recently been working with 1-2 year olds.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my Early Childhood certification, which is up to 3rd grade. I have worked with all of these ages (k-3rd) either during student teaching or actual teaching when I was done with school. I have taught kindergarten for 2 years and I have tutored a student up to 2nd grade. I would have tutored him his 3rd grade year as well if I wouldn't have moved. I have worked with common core across curriculum, I have taught reading and writing and math.

Handwriting

Last year working in a lower income area school in Kindergarten, we worked on creating our own handwriting curriculum. Most of our students came from our preschool program and were able to write their names and letters easily, however we did have students come in without any previous preschool. We assessed our students every quarter to see how well they could write their names, numbers and letters. We practiced handwriting every day and once they accomplished one part of it we moved them on to the next level. I have my Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. I have taught Kindergarten two times, and have a year and a half of experience in Preschool and have recently been working with 1-2 year olds.

Reading

I have my Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education and have taught Kindergarten for 2 years, where reading is a huge part of the curriculum. I have used reading series with Common Core while also supplementing with my own leveled readers. With my previous tutor student I would download books from A-Z reading (because that is what is school used) and practiced the leveled readers and test him when ready. I would also supplement with books that he found more interesting to help keep him wanting to read.

Spelling

Part of my degree program consisted of spelling. As a Kindergarten teacher we did not do actual tests, however we did expect our students to learn how to spell commonly used words for their level that would help them with their writing process. We would practice these words during our morning whole group time. If it was a new word we would work on it together and then the next time each of the students would take turns trying to spell it. We would also do spelling games. When working with my tutor kid I would give him practice spelling tests to see which words he need to work on, then I would help him work through the parts of the words he was messing up and then have him continue to practice them.
