Benedictine College (Art)
Hi, I'm Samantha. I am a recent college graduate with a degree in art. For the past two years through an afterschool outreach program at my college I have taught both elementary and high school students art. We worked with a variety of mediums such as acrylic paint, watercolor, pastels, charcoal and pencil. We discussed art in both the traditional academic sense learning about particular artists and art movements as well as discussed the emotional and fun side of art and how both sides come together to make a great artist.
I believe that tutoring can be one of the best ways to learn because it gives a student individualized attention and allows the lessons to be customized to the students needs or desires. At the heart of me, I am a teacher, because I have a passion for passing on knowledge. With a belief that each person can learn when they are equipped with the right tools, I have a desire for my students to succeed.
Having graduated with a degree in art, with an emphasis in painting, I have an excellent understanding of art. I have worked with multiple mediums including acrylic, watercolor, pencil, charcoal, clay, and plaster just to name some of them. I have been doing art since I was a small child and have found a great love and passion for it which is sometimes half the battle when approaching art. I think that art is one of the best ways to learn about oneself along with the world that surrounds us.
Art is interdependent, as each medium or process can help the artist improve and learn something new about another medium, or can help improve the artist's skills. Art is a building process, and it is something that first can be taught, but then must be practiced in order to be developed and improve. I would love to share my love of art with you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
