I graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation with a Media Arts Minor in December of 2012. I have recently moved back to Colorado in an effort to pursue a career in Art Education.
While from a young age I always seemed to gravitate towards art, it was through important instruction and guidance that I was able to more fully develop my talents while in childhood. When I was 9 years old I took a week long summer class from a Disney animator who taught me the need for continual motor skill practice. In my teenage years I was fortunate enough to go to a high school that had an animation program/elective class that was founded by Mr. Lightfoot, an educational pioneer. Art is suppose to be imaginative and fun, but it also takes a lot of practice to acquire the technical skills required to elevate the range in which a student can communicate their visual stories.
Art is similar to any sport, if all you do is show up for game day you will never reach your true potential. Art class is a time to discuss ideas, and consider constructive critique. The student takes these broadening ideas and rules and attempts to apply them to their personal studies. It is through these additional hours of practice that strength is added to a student's artistic talent. As an art tutor I will provide you with valuable critiques that are designed to highlight your strengths and your weaknesses. I also believe in bringing work from other professionals for the student to critique along with me. Being mindful of what artists that inspire us are accomplishing, and bringing that to our attention through vocal dialog is another way to practice more efficiently. Last of all, and perhaps most importantly, I will always be ready to draw for the student, and give on the spot tutorials for tackling normal drawing challenges.
Outside of attending many art classes in school, I have also been a TA for an animation professor. In my younger years I was an assistant to a cub scout leader, and spent much of my adolescent years critiquing fellow peers artwork on online art forums. I am currently working on obtaining my alternative art education licensure. In the process of applying to more educational jobs I am trying to build up more real world experience teaching, thus why my tutoring rate is low!
I love art, and I enjoy cultivating others excitement and overall skill set for such a fun, but challenging field of work.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I believe in teaching the core principles of art. It is within the structure of rules and guidelines that this knowledge of drawing can be bent to specific styles. However, without the vision and desire to communicate fun and exciting visual stories the core principles mean nothing. Art is more than fun, it is serious fun!
