Hi, my name is Stephanie L. and I am from Alabama (some people say I have an accent, but that will be up to you to decide). I moved to Colorado a few months ago from Northern California, where my husband and I met and got married. I am a graduate of the University of South Alabama. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, and a Master's degree in Education. I have been tutoring since I was 17, where I began tutoring Math. I tutored Spanish throughout college for our language lab, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
After receiving my Bachelor's degree, I taught Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 in for 7th and 8th grade for two years. After that, I taught Spanish 1 and 2 for 9-12th grade. For the past year and a half, I have been tutoring in Writing, Reading, Language Arts, Spanish, and Math. During that time period, I worked for a non profit organization in California that worked with children who did not meet No Child Left Behind standards. I have tutored all age groups ranging from elementary to the college level, and I really love it. I enjoy connecting with each and every student, discovering what their strengths are, and helping build their confidence. I have loved seeing students go from struggling in an area to gaining the confidence they need to excel in that same subject. In my spare time, I enjoy shopping, watching football, movies, traveling (I have traveled to Mexico and Guatemala-one of my favorite places!), and cooking. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been working with students in the Elementary Age range for over a year, which includes working for a tutoring company called Ultimate Success Learning, where I worked with children who struggled to reach NCLB standards. I have tutored in Math, Reading, Vocabulary, Writing, Spanish, and much more during the last year and a half for the tutoring company and on my own. I love helping children at this age, and I understand the importance of developing these skills at an early age to provide a great foundation for the future.
I love Reading, and I know how essential it is to education. In college, I took several classes that focused on Reading and different strategies for teaching it. I have taught and tutored Reading in both Spanish and English for years in the classroom and in-home settings. I also have taught for the Institute of Reading Development, where I taught Reading at all age levels-from Kindergarten through College. I have worked with students in different skills, anywhere from Phonics to Speed Reading. I have helped children who were behind their grade level in Reading exceed their own expectations and grow in confidence in their ability to read.
I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish and a master's degree in education with a focus in Spanish. I have been tutoring and teaching Spanish for the past seven years. My experience tutoring and teaching includes all age groups, ranging from as young as 16 months all the way to college level.
As a Spanish major, writing was as major requirement of my degree. I took several classes in literature in Spanish and English, which both required writing. I have tutored students in college in Spanish and English with research papers, essays, and even journal entries. Outside of college, I have tutored students of all ages with their research papers, essays, and other types of writing.
