I am a certified teacher with extensive experience in tutoring regular and special education students of all ages. After a career as a business, fiscal, and personnel manager, I became interested in teaching through working with my own children. I began tutored students in math and language arts, and developed and implemented an English as a second language curriculum for a language conservatory, as well as a French curriculum for a school district's extracurricular program. I also tutored at-risk students in K through 6th grade in publicly funded math and reading programs. Witnessing the students' delight in their own progress, along with the positive feedback from parents and other teachers, were the catalysts that led me to become certified in teaching both regular and special education in the public schools.
By implementing a variety of techniques with a positive approach, I adapt the lessons to the needs of the student. I am currently tutoring math students from second grade through Algebra 1 and Language Arts students from pre-school through college. I have also helped a number of students to improve ASVAB, SAT, and ACT scores.
I have extensive experience in teaching reading, math, social skills, and organizational skills to special needs students with varying diagnoses including ADD, ADHD, autism, sensory processing disorders, Aspergers, and developmental delays using a variety of research-based techniques including ABA therapy.
My goal is to guide students to experience accomplishments that spark motivation. I utilize research-based materials and techniques. I establish high but realistic expectations; practice positive reinforcement; match teaching technique to learning style; and ensure that learning experiences bolster self-esteem.
I look forward to tutoring you!
We are looking forward to the next lesson! We can see a clear improvement in our son’s English as lessons go by!Debora, 9 lessons with Anita
Anita is great!
My 8th grader was struggling. She would typically spend about 4 hours a night on homework and then not have time (or be too tired) to study for upcoming tests. Anita is not only helping her with homework but also with time management. My daughter is always amazed at how much she can get done in 1 hour!Caroline, 43 lessons with Anita
Positive and encouraging tutor
Anita came to our house and reviewed with my son on phonics. She was able to make an assessment on his knowledge and help us to work with him and focus on his needs as well. My son felt very comfortable with her. She was very positive and encouraged him to sound out words that he was unfamiliar with. She also gave us assignments to help strengthen my son's reading skills. She is a joy to work with.Mary, 4 lessons with Anita
Patient and caring.
Anita has been working with my son over the summer on his upcoming 8th grade curriculum so he can go into the new year without having to play catch up.Kari, 19 lessons with Anita
My son really came a long way in the 9 months that Anita tutored him. He went from barely able to add & subtract to starting pre-algebra. I was very impressed with her skills and her professionalism. If anyone is looking for a great tutor, Anita is the one!Kathy, 45 lessons with Anita
A true gift!
Anita was such a gift to us when we really needed support for our daughter who was struggling in third grade this past school year. We were so grateful that we were able to have tutoring sessions with her in order to get our daughter feeling more confident about her school work. Anita showed that she was not only a very engaging and creative teacher, she has true passion for teaching kids and had a genuine concern about the well-being of our daughter's academic growth and schooling. We feel so blessed to have had a chance to work with Anita before she moved to Colorado.Kirsten, 1 lesson with Anita

We have had a wonderful experience with Anita. She's been a tremendous asset for our son and he loves working with her. She has helped him bring his failing language arts grades up to C's which is amazing. He actually is enjoying reading a book for the first time.Jaime, 21 lessons with Anita
Very Kind and Patient Teacher!
Anita created a wonderful dynamic with my 8 year daughter right off the bat! She spent a lot of timing talking with me before she met my daughter to understand her specific needs, then created lesson plans and a learning environment that was right on target. My daughter really seems to blossom under the positive guidance. Because she understands that my daughter is a hands on learner, they even baked a pie to study measurements and fractions for math! I would definitely recommend her to anyone, she really seems to have a gift for connecting with the students, and creates her tutoring sessions based on the needs and personality of the child.Anne, 6 lessons with Anita
