Hi, my name is Tessa and I recently graduated from CU with a Math degree. While in college, I worked as a teaching assistant, a learning assistant (student-focused math help), and a private tutor. Additionally, while in college, I worked 20 hours a week in the mathematics resource center at CU helping students understand their lessons and complete their homework successfully.
Teaching students to solve complex math problems on their own and giving them the confidence to succeed in mathematics is my passion. My philosophy is that everyone has the aptitude to succeed at math. I help students thrive with patient, thorough explanations of math concepts and guidance through challenging problems. I know that math anxiety is difficult to overcome but with my patient and encouraging style my students gain the confidence to work through mathematics problems on their own.
I have a thorough knowledge of a wide breadth of mathematics concepts and I am patient and articulate in explaining what I know. I enjoy helping people overcome anxiety about math and teaching them the intricacies and beauty of our mathematical world.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra 1 is where math really starts to get fun. I love teaching Algebra 1 because it is truly where math becomes useful in the sciences. I think when students begin Algebra 1, they are at a critical point in their math education and this is often where math anxiety sets. My goal is help the student become confident in their abilities while developing the skills to go further in math and science.
Elementary math is the foundation of all mathematics. As someone who spent all of her time in college studying math, my knowledge of the foundations of math had to be perfect and complete. I fully grasp all elementary mathematics and am able to teach those skills to someone who is just learning math.
While in college, I spent 1 year as a teaching assistant for a pre-calculus course which was a special privilege for an undergraduate student like myself. Normally, teaching assistant positions are awarded only to graduate students but, due to my excellent math grades and demonstration of my pre-calculus knowledge, I was able to work as a teaching assistant. Pre-calculus is one of my favorite areas of basic math and I love to help students fully grasp the building blocks of calculus.
