University of Colorado (Linguistics)
I'm passionate about creating fun, caring, and effective learning environments and truly believe in the power they have to positively impact a child. As a recent Denver Math Fellow (for the 2015/16 school year), I've witnessed the immense potential that comes with individualized attention and high expectations. Through this urban education fellowship, I participated in initial training as well as regular professional development, and gained over 500 hours of small group instruction experience working with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.
I graduated from CU in 2015 with a degree in Linguistics and a certificate in Cognitive Science. In my last several semesters, I narrowed my focus to Language Development, and became extremely fascinated with the young mind. I recently earned my Early Education Teacher qualifications (in the state of CO); and as of March 2017, I hold a lead teacher position at a highly-regarded early education center.
Throughout the last half of 2016, I was fortunate enough to continue working with older elementary students - thanks to Wyzant :) - and even though I intend to focus on very young learners in my career, I find immense joy in private tutoring! I thrive on making personal, positive connections with students and enthusiastically share my love for learning. Furthermore, I strive to inspire students to pursue academic success, especially in the face of challenges.
I welcome all opportunities to see if I'm a good fit for your child! Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Add $10 per each additional student for group rates. **Small group tutoring is not only a super affordable option, it's an extra-effective learning opportunity! I highly recommend it!
Heather gives my daughter ideas and ways to help her learn and retain her new information. She also helps her consider different ways of thinking that may help her understand better or resolve a math problem easier.
She came prepared, made it enjoyable but productive. She stayed very focused with my daughter even though the setting in the house was a bit distracting at that particular time. I really like that she left some light homework for my daughter to work on between tutoring sessions. Another big plus is that my daughter likes her a lot.
Heather is a wonderful tutor. She organizes her lessons and takes her time to understand and know her student difficulties or struggles.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
