About Simone

Hi there! My name is Simone, and I live in Greeley, Colorado. I am a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado. I am a licensed teacher with endorsements in Secondary English, K-12 Drama, Early Childhood Education, and Elementary Education. My experience in education is diverse, including: Early Childhood Education teacher, Program Specialist with the Boys & Girls Club, paraprofessional in Franklin Middle School's Intensive Functional Learning special education program, K-12 Drama Teacher and Theatrical Director with APEX Homeschool Enrichment Program, volunteer with the Children's Learning Lab at the Guadalupe Shelter, and most recently, 8th grade Language Arts teacher at Bromley East Charter School. I am skilled in working with a diverse population of students, including at-risk youth and students with IEPs, 504s, and Safety Plans.

My area of expertise is within Language Arts, which the Colorado State Standards define as skills in reading, writing, and communicating. I am also highly qualified to offer coaching in acting and other areas of theatre. I am experienced with meeting the needs of students with special needs, and with a typing speed of 80 words per minute, I am also skilled at scribing for students who are unable to write for themselves. I have tutored students ranging from elementary school to graduate school.

The foundation of my teaching philosophy is my belief that students are most likely to succeed when they have confidence in their own abilities and feel that they are in a supportive, positive environment with adults who also have confidence in their abilities. I strongly believe that character education is equally important as teaching content. I consider myself to be both an educator and a mentor. I strive to be a positive role model who demonstrates positivity, problem-solving, strength, and a passion for learning.

I care about the youth with whom I work; as such, it is crucial to me that I not only teach content, but I also strive to create a positive and professional student-teacher relationship. I know that everyone learns differently, and I work hard to ensure that students are learning in a way that is effective for them. I am very excited to tutor through WyzAnt, and I look forward to meeting you!

Thank you!
Simone

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

Well, being the oldest of three siblings is probably where I've gotten the most experience with younger children. Furthermore, I tutored at a local elementary school for a semester, working particularly with special needs kids, and I was recognized by the school board for it. Also, I just finished a semester of observing at a local middle school in a teacher's language arts and speech/drama classes, and I assisted with the theatre club's school play. With both the tutoring and the observing, I interacted with students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.

Public Speaking

As a theatre major and an education major, it is essential for me to be a talented public speaker. I just recently sat in on a middle school speech/drama class for a semester in order to learn how to teach speech/drama. Also, I volunteered at a high school debate forum.

Special Needs

Since I was a young child, my mother has worked in the field of providing services for people with developmental disabilities. Throughout the years, I have volunteered at various events hosted for the developmentally disabled, and I also volunteered at a therapeutic horse ranch. My mom has also been a host home provider for various persons with developmental disabilities, so I have lived with various people who had special and/or severe needs. I also tutored at an elementary school for a semester, where I received recognition from the school board for my work with children who had special and severe needs.
