About Nick

I am a senior at CMU. I am originally from Creede, CO. After I graduate from CMU I intend to go to med school where I will pursue the career of being a pediatric neurosurgeon. I really enjoy helping someone grow and learn. Tutoring is a great way for me to do that.

Also, when I teach someone something then it reinforces it in my head and I also learn new things that I didn't know before. I have taken Genetics, Anatomy and Physiology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Calculus, Pharmacology, and several other Biology courses. I am also a tutor at CMU.

I approach tutoring the same way that I approach my own homework and studying. I first look at what needs to be accomplished, then I set a mini schedule for how to approach the assignments, and finally I put my complete focus into the tasks. If you want someone who is passionate about learning and teaching others then I'm the tutor that you want. I take school very seriously and I am dedicated to helping someone in need. I also design a lesson plan for each student that includes homework, pop quizzes, study tips, and performance evaluations.

Figuring out how a particular student learns, and approaching their ability in the proper form is something that I find to be imperative. For example, I myself am a very hands on and visual type learner. If I was tutoring a student who shared the same learning technique as me, then I would approach it accordingly. If the study is someone who maybe is more of an auditory learner, then I would adjust my teaching method so that I could accommodate for that. I never give up with anything that I do in my life and I plan on instilling that idea in the minds of every student that I tutor. Hard work does get you where you want to go.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Genetics

Last semester I took an upper level genetics course at CMU and I scored a high B. I was very proficient in it and I also really liked learning about genetics. I am continuing to study genetics because I am taking the MCAT in June and there is a genetics section on that test.

Organic Chemistry

I took two semesters (O chem 1 and 2) at CMU. I scored a B in the class. I am continuing to study organic chemistry because I am taking the MCAT in June and there is a lot of organic chemistry on that test. I have also taken a biochemistry course at CMU which further solidified my knowledge of organic chemistry.

Pharmacology

I took a Pharmacology course at CMU last semester and I passed with an A. I understood the material very well, and I am very proficient in the field of Pharmacology. I would be very good at teaching someone the material. I have a very keen understanding for how different drugs and medications move throughout the body. The pharm class that I took at CMU was taught by an amazing professor, and she made sure to go in depth with all of the material. We also had to write a total of 10 papers on different drugs used in the body. Because of that I gained a vast amount of knowledge about pharm. I believe that that will make me a great tutor for the subject. Also, in tutoring someone in the subject of pharmacology, both the student and myself can solidify the material and learn a deeper understanding of the material.

Sociology

I took a Sociology course at CMU, and I am also currently studying the subject myself because I am taking the MCAT in June. I believe that in order to be proficient in the subject, you have to think beyond the typical scope of the material that you are covering. This is something that I would like to teach the students that want help in this subject. A subject like sociology is not just about memorizing a bunch of information, rather it is about fully understanding the concepts and material inside and out. This is how I would approach being a tutor in this subject. Also, when I tutor in something like sociology, the student, as well as myself, will learn the material in new and exciting ways that will help solidify, as well as help gain a deeper understanding of the material.
