University of Colorado Denver (Music, Songwriting)
I am a twenty-four year old music student at the University of Colorado Denver. Previously, I was a Special Education instructor for two years, specializing in the areas of ADD, ADHD, Autism, and Downs Syndrome. I have dipped my toes in the water when it comes to tutoring on the side, but primarily have done one-on-one sessions during school hours. I perform with my group around Denver and have a few noteworthy accomplishments there as well.
I love to watch lightbulbs click in students' minds when a difficult concept is finally grasped or a challenge has been met. This is oftentimes followed by a desire to persevere and learn more, pushing the student(s) to bigger and better things.
My specialties include: Music Theory, as I've maxed out the classes I can take at the university, Ear Training/ Sight Singing, Songwriting, Music History, and some vocal performance. As such, I have also produced my own group's full length record as well as a handful of other Denver musicians.
Music is one of the few universal languages, and I love getting to see the encouragement it presents in others as well as myself. And if I can help a student experience that, then it'll all be worth it in the end.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions, my schedule is fairly flexible. I'm excited to get to meet with and work with a different crowd of musicians and students alike! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I completed the highest ear training courses at UC Denver, which include skills such as melodic and rhythmic dictation, vocal arpeggios of major/minor/half diminished/fully diminished chords, and chordal quality recognition.
I'm currently a third-year music student in my undergrad at UC Denver, as well as previous education experience in Jefferson County. I have a solid background in both performance and studious music institutions.
I completed the highest course offering at UC Denver, as well as given on-the-spot pieces of music for vocal performance during juried evaluations.
