About Kelsey

I am very open to adjusting my style of teaching/tutoring to a format that works best for each individual student. Currently I am taking one class and working on my research project. Because the research project is independent, my schedule is fairly flexible.

I have taken many levels of mathematics as prerequisites to my engineering degree. I have received As in all the courses I have stated as able to tutor. I also have experience tutoring and teaching many of the subjects.

I am currently in my second year at Colorado State University pursuing a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Last year I was a teaching assistant in the fall for a course focusing on Excel applications and learning Visual Basic. In the spring, I was a teaching assistant for a course introducing students to MATLAB and ArcMap/GIS as well as an introduction to statistics. I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science, with distinction, in Biological Engineering. During my time at Penn State, I was a teaching intern for a course focusing on Microsoft Excel and MATLAB. I also worked as a facilitator for a women in engineering program, tutoring for Calculus I. Over summers, I was a private tutor for Physics I and several levels of Math including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, and Calculus I.

If you have questions or would like to schedule a tutoring appointment, feel free to contact me.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Civil Engineering

I have been a teaching assistant for sophomore level Civil Engineering courses for a year. I have also been a teaching intern for Biological Engineering courses. I have taken many Civil Engineering courses in my undergraduate degree. I am also now pursuing my master's in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

GIS

I have taught undergraduates how to navigate and use GIS for the first time. I have also used GIS in my research and feel comfortable sharing my knowledge with others.

MATLAB

I use MATLAB on an everyday basis for my research project. I have also assistant taught two classes on introductory MATLAB at Colorado State University and The Pennsylvania State University.

R

I have taken a statistics course that highlighted using R and the packages that R provides. With the extensive programming background, I feel comfortable navigating and explaining the many applications of the R and Rstudio software.

Swimming

For someone who already knows how to swim, but not the proper strokes (i.e. freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke), I can teach you how to do each stroke. I have swam for 8 years. In high school, I was on the swim team and did a summer club swim team. I have experience teaching others the proper strokes in order to prepare them for a triathlon race.

Visual Basic

I have assistant taught on using Visual Basic in MS Excel at Colorado State University. I also completed an advanced open channel flow modeling course that primarily used Visual Basic.
