About Zak

I am currently pursuing a PhD in experimental physics. I am building a new type of laser system to study atomic hydrogen atoms. I love what I do because I get to work with my hands and constantly challenge myself to learn new skills. Although difficult, my passion and enjoyment for what I do helps me overcome frustrations. I take this mindset to teaching.

Teaching and learning should be interactive, engaging, but also challenging. However, I believe the student should explore subjects and find what makes the topic interesting to them. Once students find enjoyment and passion for what they are learning, I believe they will develop a genuine curiosity for the subject that will enable them to overcome the challenges of learning new, difficult material. This is what I love about tutoring. With my extensive knowledge of the material, I can act as a guide for students as they explore and develop passion for what they are learning.

Mathematics is the language of physics. As a PhD student in physics, I could not have made it this far without being fluent in the language of mathematics. From ACT Math, through Calculus I-III, linear algebra, differential equations, and even complex analysis, I have developed a very solid core understanding of math. What makes me a good tutor for math is that as a physicist, I understand the application and importance of math in everyday reality. I hope I can help you appreciate, apply, and improve your mathematical fluency.

Physics is a mathematical portrait of nature. I have devoted my life to understanding and appreciating the elegance of this portrait. With my extensive knowledge, background, and experience in physics and chemistry I am confident I can help students appreciate the elegant description of the universe that chemistry and physics provides.

If you are looking for an engaging, effective tutor, and are up to rise the challenge of pushing your learning please contact me! I would love to help you understand and appreciate the power of math and science.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have a math minor and extensive math background as I have completed all coursework required for a PHD on physics.

Calculus

I have a math minor and have taken calculus 1-3 as well as many other courses requiring intense calculus such as quantum mechanics.

Chemistry

I have a minor in chemistry and have always loved studying chemistry mixed with physics.

Mathematica

Since my undergraduate physics career, Mathematica has served as a valuable tool in performing computations for solving physics problems. I have used Mathematica on a daily basis for the last six years and have developed a great fluency in its language, syntax, coding, and capabilities. Mathematica is a powerful tool, and I believe the younger generation of scientists below me should know how to use this tool to exceed in their education and careers.

Physics

I have a BS and Masters in Physics and am currently working on my PHD.
