About Emily

I am a 23 year old female and recent graduate of Colorado State University with a Bachelor's degree in English. While I couldn't put books down growing up, and participated in my high school's Book Club as well as Math/Science Bowl, I understand the difficulties surrounding learning material that doesn't come easily. However, due to my involvement over the years with many different sorts of subjects, honors curriculum throughout high school and college, and tutoring children, I have found out many ways to effectively work through those difficulties and help others to do the same. My affordable services will help any in need of a tutor, and my zeal for teaching and professionalism will keep you coming back.

I am well acquainted with the Fort Collins area, and as such have no problems traveling wherever you feel most comfortable learning. I encourage my students to feel free to open up to me, and not to hesitate if they aren't grasping a concept, or need to convey anything else to me. I will assist you in long-term learning if necessary, and will help you attain higher scores and understanding over time. I am open to teaching in a way that allows you to learn best, whether that be visual or auditory. Because I have over eight years of experience with children, I am well-accustomed to the patience that is required to teach them.

If you need someone in the Fort Collins area to help you with English, History, Math, Science, or SAT/ACT prep, please don't hesitate to message me. I have a strict 8-hour cancellation policy if you have already scheduled, but if you need someone last minute, I will make an effort to be available. Also, I don't charge if you find my services unhelpful after our first session. I want you to leave feeling comfortable, heard, and satisfied.

I am in the process of studying to become a nurse, and finished most of the prerequisites for a Pre-Med path before switching to nursing, so I have had lots of experience taking science classes. I am well versed in Math prior to calculus as well. I understand the challenges that come with being less STEM-minded, and can offer lots by way of tips and tricks for those who face similar issues.

I scored near-perfectly on the English sections of the ACT and SAT in high school. I graduated Cum Laude with an English degree this spring from Colorado State University with an emphasis in Literature, and have ample experience working in college Writing Centers and editing tough papers. If you're looking for an ESL teacher, no problem. Not only do I have experience tutoring Chinese and Korean kids online, I plan on teaching in Korea long term soon, so I'm earning my TESL degree as I write this. I also have experience in many other varied subjects, such as vocal lessons, history classes, and yoga.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

Scored a perfect score on the reading section and a near perfect score on the writing portion.

Nutrition

I took a few Nutrition courses for my degree at Colorado State University through their Food Sciences and Human Nutrition (FSHN) department. I excelled at bomb calorimetry specifically within this field during my time in labs there. I believe I could help people learn much about this subject.

Phonics

I just finished up an English major at Colorado State University. I have had a year's experience teaching TPR-based phonics, as well as synthetic and pure phonics for VIPKID and in my English classes.

Swimming

I swam competitively for over ten years and am lifeguard certified, as well as in possession of a Basic Life-Support license. I can teach younger kids how to swim, and help older ones shave time off their competitions.

Voice (Music)

I have taught voice lessons in Utah and Colorado for the past three years, and have been studying the voice my entire life myself. I can easily place a student into their correct vocal range, emphasize healthy singing techniques, and improve their singing quality overall.

Writing

I worked for a year and a half in a college writing center and I have a degree in English.
