I am a teacher, gardener, anthropologist, and horticultural therapy practitioner. I have taught in Poudre School District for more than ten years - teaching 3rd grade through middle school and all subjects, including English, Science, Social Studies, and Math.
Before that I tutored college students in writing and anthropology. Because I am a firm believer in getting outside and experiencing the world, all of my teaching incorporates experiential and outdoor education aspects. I love helping students find a personal and fun connection to their schoolwork.
I currently operate a Farm School tutoring program where horticultural and animal care is integrated into each tutoring session. Finding links to academic work in the natural world is an extremely effective way to engage student learning. And, even if the academic task at hand is not directly tied to nature, the therapeutic benefits of checking in on the farm animals or digging up a few carrots for an afternoon snack is impressive.
I have a Master's in Anthropology and have worked as an Ecological Research Scientist. In addition, I have worked for 10 years as science teacher, developing curriculum based on the Colorado State Standards.
I have a Bachelors of Arts in Humanities and have completed graduate coursework in English literature. I have been a classroom English teacher and tutored reading and writing students of elementary through college age.
I look forward to helping you meet your individual learning goals. Please contact me if you have questions or want to schedule a tutoring session. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Masters in Anthropology from the University of Colorado - Boulder. I have conducted doctoral level coursework in Cultural and Ecological anthropology. I have worked as a researcher in the field of Ecological Anthropology for five years.
I am a certified teacher with a current Colorado elementary teacher's licence. I have been a classroom teacher for 3rd through 6th grade students for eleven years. I have provided tutoring in reading, writing, math, and science to individual students at these grade levels for the past 10 years.
