Tutor ready to help
I am a biology researcher. I'm not only interested in the sciences, though--I went to the University of Maryland, where I received bachelor's degrees in both history and biology. I love learning in both the humanities and the sciences, and I hope that this comes across in my tutoring! I am very glad to be able to help students break through barriers that can seem impassable, only to realize they had the potential the whole time!
I have some informal experience tutoring, and I have learned how to help students who feel stuck. I am still young enough to remember what being in school is like, and I know that sometimes assignments can seem daunting. But I am confident that, working one-on-one, we can find a way to break any task down into reasonable portions and make our way through.
After earning my degrees, I worked in multiple bioresearch fields. This broad experience helps me to explain difficult concepts with real-world examples. I can help with anything from subcellular to ecological, and I can coach students through tasks involving rote memorization, science writing, data analysis, and everything in between.
I have been a constant reader since I was very young. This is the best way to build a vocabulary, feed the imagination, and appreciate classic literature. Knowing the magic of reading a good book or written work is essential to developing one's own writing. I show students how these aspects interlock, and how to use them to reach their full potential.
American history is, amazingly, always changing. There is a basis of widely known fact, and this information often simply needs to be memorized. However, laid on these facts are constant new discoveries and new theories. I help students to memorize the facts while keeping their mind flexible to multiple interpretations of those facts. This flexibility is necessary for many American history writing assignments.
I am glad to have this opportunity to work with individual students. I think this is one of the most efficient and exciting ways to learn. We will go far together!
