EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY, Ypsilanti MI (Written Comm.)
Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO (Master's)
Hello! I have three semesters as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, where I helped with recitation sections at Colorado State University. I did not receive a teaching certificate from this, but I am comfortable teaching a lesson in front of a group of people. I also have experience doing one-on-one tutoring for students needing help writing papers, specifically when they need a proofreader, or if they need help with English Literature studies.
I love tutoring because it provides an outlet for me to help boost a mind that is challenged by a concept or issue to overcome it and understand it. When a student improves under my tutelage, I feel like I have achieved something along with them. If knowledge is power, then I believe that power ought to be shared.
I have a deep academic understanding of English literature and writing, as I have both a Bachelor of Science Degree in Written Communications with a concentration in Creative Writing and a Master of Science in Public Communications and Technology. I am also an avid bibliophile, and reading is practically a hobby instead of a pastime. When I worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Colorado State University, one of my jobs was to grade student papers, which greatly improved my skills as a proofreader because I had to spot mistakes. I have also helped colleagues of mine in graduate school by proofreading sections of their papers before the final versions were turned in, and even helped with proofreading sections of thesis proposal or the thesis itself. I do not just proofread, but I also help the person I am proofreading for understand why something needs to be changed.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are looking for a proofreader, that is what I will do, and I will show you where corrections need to be made and why. I am not an editor, and I will not rewrite sections of your paper for you, as the academic integrity of your work needs to remain intact.
I am currently available Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, though at different times throughout each of those days.
Thursday: Afternoon and Evening.
Friday: Morning, Afternoon and Evening.
Saturday: Morning and Afternoon.
If you are interested in using me as a tutor, do not be afraid to drop me a note. I know that academics can be tough (and if you are at a high level, a little anxiety-inducing), but I am here to tell you that it gets better and I can help. Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
