About Sandy

I have earned BS, MS, and PhD degrees in chemistry. I was a chemistry professor for 20 years. I have taught general chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, and environmental chemistry. My research areas are in environmental analytical chemistry and photochemistry. I have co-authored a chemistry textbook and have published many technical papers in the chemical literature. I have been employed as a chemist in industry and in government. Recently, I was hired to help evaluate public high school chemistry and physical science teachers in Colorado.

I have a vast amount of experience explaining difficult topics for both high school and university students. I know how to help students get over the anxiety that many of them feel when it comes to chemistry and the physical sciences. Many of my former students are scientists, engineers, physicians, and veterinarians. Science can be difficult but, getting competent help can make it much less of a struggle. I am patient and do my best to motivate students to succeed in science classes.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
