About Ryan

I love helping people learn math and science. Both topics are fascinating and enjoyable to me, and that is something I try to bring to the table in any teaching environment. In 2013 I was a teaching assistant for a graduate level electrical engineering lab, and in my free time for the past 10 years I've helped dozens of friends and family learn subjects in various fields, including high school and college math, calculus, statistics, probability, and physics, while in pursuit of a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University. I look forward to helping many more students learn and succeed in these subjects! I love helping people learn math and science. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I received a 30 in Mathematics when I took the ACT as a Junior in high school.

Basketball

I was varsity captain for my high school basketball team, and have played since in various intramural leagues and, for one year, as a practice player for the Women's UK Hoops team. I have volunteered as a camp counselor for multiple summers for a basketball day camp. My area of expertise is post-play and positioning for tall players, as I am 6'6" myself and play the forward and center positions most often. Basketball is my passion and I'd love to share my knowledge with young stars!

Electrical Engineering

I received my B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kentucky in 2010, with a 3.4 GPA. I've worked in industry through internships at GE, Trane, and Lexmark, and worked full-time for 2.5 years at Mason and Hanger.

I'm close to receiving my M.S. in EE from UK, with a GPA of 3.9 and a year's worth teaching experience through my teaching assistantship, where I ran a 400 level lab course. I have demonstrated skills in electrical engineering, as well as demonstrated teaching ability at an undergraduate college level.

Logic

I have approached logic from an engineering perspective, and thus have most often seen and applied the subject from that point of view. However`, I've had training in classical logic via a graduate level electrical engineering course, and have a solid grasp on the basics and some of the intricacies of the study of logic.

MATLAB

MATLAB is my language of choice for computational packages in my academic and research capacities. I've used it almost exclusively as a computational resource in my graduate experience, and have conducted statistical research using at times complex scripts and functions of my own design.

I also have teaching experience in MATLAB, having taught it as part of my teaching assistantship at the University of Kentucky. I'm comfortable using and teaching the program and love helping students discover the usefulness of one of the best tools of research and industry.

Awesome tutor and explains concepts very well!

Ryan is a wonderful tutor for my 17 year old son who is taking College Trig. Ryan is very quick and understands the material completely. He is able to explain things that have really helped my son's understanding and I know Ryan will continue to greatly help him this semester as he progresses with College Trig.
