University of Nebraska at Omaha (Civil Engineering)
May 2014 (Enrolled)
My name is Anna N. I am currently working towards my Doctorate in Civil Engineering at CSU. I completed my Master in Civil Engineering Spring 2016 at Ghent University in Belgium. Prior to this, I completed my Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering at University of Nebraska.
I have successfully achieved many scholarly awards such as the UNO Regent's scholarship and the PKI Scott Scholarship due to my success in high school and on my ACT exam. I have completed collegiate level calculus, calculus II, calculus III, differential equations, physics I, physics II, and statistics with very high marks. I logged many hours for WyzAnt while working towards my degree in Nebraska. I am looking forward to begin again now that I have returned to the USA.
I find that preparation and repetition are the best tools. I prefer to work ahead on potential classroom subjects so the student can understand and learn more in their classroom. I am able to assist with coursework as needed, but I believe it is best to work on subjects and practice and then have the student attempt the homework on their own, or with little guidance.
ACT preparation is a strong suit for me. I received a 32 on my ACT. I believe that with the proper preparation, most students can achieve a 25 or greater. With preparation, most students can increase their scores 2 to 5 points. I like to work through practice tests together and then take benchmark exams to give the feel of pressure and time constraint. ACT preparation books are normally required for tutoring sessions. Preferred book suggestions are available upon request.
I find the local libraries are the least distracting locations for these sessions. I am new to the Fort Collins area, so please feel free to suggest good tutoring locations!

Anna is a wonderful tutor! She has the perfect combination of content expertise and personality to help my son improve. Anna challenges him in a fun and productive way, and she knows the material so well she can explain it in easily understood terms. Highly recommend!
Anna has really been helping my daughter through her AP calculus class. She's helping her understand the coursework and studying for tests and quizzes.
Anna was very knowledgeable, gave helpful tips and test taking strategies, and individualized my lessons based on what needed the most improvement.
Anna was quick to reply and to schedule a meeting. She was professional, knowledgeable and easy to work with. She helped me go over and review precalculus for a math placement test and was patient in walking me through information I was having trouble with. Definitely recommend!
Anna has taken the time to get to know my daughter on a very personal level besides taking on tutoring her in math. I really appreciate her going the extra mile for us!
We decided to try some tutoring since advanced algebra class had become confusing at times. Anna is easy to work with, and our daughter likes her personally. Anna answers quickly to set up appointments, and she is always prompt. We can already see improvement and will be contacting her for some ACT preparation.
My daughter was somewhat lost in her algebra class. We had tried a tutor before and she was still not understanding the work. So far our daughter has had one tutoring session with Anna (more to come), and came away from it with a great sense of optimism and relief. She was enthusiastic and also really seemed to like Anna on a personal level. Anna replied to our initial inquiry almost immediately, and quickly set up the first session. Thank you!
Anna is very easy to work with scheduling a session. My daughter is in high school competition cheer and her schedule changes daily. Anna is very accommodating with her busy schedule. As some of you know teenagers can be less than thrilled with homework so I am very impressed that my daughter has asked for more sessions and has made long term plans to meet with Anna so she is more comfortable and struggles less with her math. I really like that she meet my daughter at a public library so I felt comfortable sending her. We are looking forward to more sessions for math as well as act/sat prep.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an extensive background in math, seeing as I am studying civil engineering. I have taken courses in Geometry through upper levels of math, like calculus III and differential equations. I also received a 31 on the Math portion of my ACT in high school. I find that practicing the problems and repetition is the best strategy for the math portion of the ACT.
