About Julie

I love teaching. I've dedicated myself 100% to a career in teaching middle and high schoolers. I am currently returning to school to pursue my Master's in secondary science education.

I am passionate about teaching students of any age, and encouraging them to success. If the circumstances for your student's learning aren't optimal, let me help so that they not only succeed, they thrive in their education at every level.

Math:
Math is so important. And not just to figure out tips. It has become increasingly important in our technological world, and if your student is fluent, comfortable, and --dare I say it?-- even enjoys math, a thousand new doors are opened for them. From rocket science (not as hard as it seems) to creating the next iPhone, math is a stepping stone that is so easy with one-on-one help.

Writing:
Throughout college I edited my friends' papers; it became a running joke that if you wanted an A, let Julie take a look at your paper. I even had professors have me edit their research papers before submission! I love editing and teaching people how to write. Writing is not a skill that is born in anyone, but that doesn't mean you can't learn it, and excel at writing at any point in your life.

Science:
Stand Back! I'm Doing Science! I am currently working on a master's of secondary education in science. If your student is falling behind it will be my pleasure not only to catch them up, but to open their eyes to the possibilities of science. The beauty and wonder of any subject, from biology to physics, and chemistry to geology. Science is my very favorite to teach and share my excitement for.

Reading:
I love teaching reading! Whether your student is starting out, or just having troubles getting the knack of it, breaking it down into very small pieces is incredibly helpful and will get your student reading before you know it.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Architecture

I majored in Environmental Architecture with a focus on Architecture. I understand design, drawings, and theory, and I would love to share this with a student.

Biology

I am a licensed Secondary Science Teacher. I love biology; it is my area of specialization, and I have taken many college classes in it.

Chemistry

I am a licensed Secondary Science Teacher. I love Chemistry, and I have taken many college classes in it.

Photography

I have been a professional photographer for almost 4 years. I know my way around a camera better than most and I have taught multiple group classes and private lessons to teach you how to use your camera, take great pictures, and to post process your images. I have gotten nothing but great reviews from past students who love that they only shoot in the "Manual" setting now.
