I am a lifelong learner and I enjoy passing on what I know to others. I have done quite a bit of mentoring in my occupation as an environmental consultant over the past 25 years. My vocational areas of expertise are ecology, biology, ecotoxicology, data analysis, statistics, and technical writing. I have been certified by the Ecological Society of America as a Senior Ecologist since 1997.
I hold a M.S. in health physics (emphasis is radioecology) from Colorado State University and a M.A. in zoology (emphasis in ecology) from University of California at Davis. My B.S. from Auburn University is in biology. As a graduate student at UC Davis, I taught undergraduate lab sessions in animal and plant biology.
Additionally, I'm an avid outdoors person and sports enthusiast that spends free time with Ultimate Frisbee leagues, trail running, camping, hiking, fishing, fencing, and martial arts. I am a frequent and passionate volunteer with the Boy Scouts, American Red Cross, Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, Continental Divide Trail Alliance, National Weather Service, and the Fort Collins Adopt-A-Neighbor program.

I recently began working with a WyzAnt tutor in Fort Collins, Colorado for statistics in a nursing program. Michael J. is a good listener and works to make sure that the subject material is understood. In addition to Statistics I needed help using MS Excel. Michael is very experienced with MS programs and helped me understand the program operation and capabilities. I would recommend Michael for any of the subjects he is registered to tutor based upon my experience with him in the area of statistics. Thanks for your help Michael J. You rock!!!
I would like to work with him next time. He is great tutor and very patient. I encourage students to choose him if they are looking for some one a good in Excel program.
Thank you, Neama. You're a quick learner, you know your lesson goals, and I look forward to working again with you.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been personally interested in human anatomy since I was in junior high and had a desire to become a surgeon. Although I ultimately took a different educational path, my career in toxicology has demanded an understanding of gross anatomy, as well as the organ systems and cellular biology.
As a graduate student, I taught biology labs to undergraduates. My undergraduate degree is in biology and one of my master's degrees is in zoology. I have been a Certified Senior Ecologist since 1997 and own a company that provides environmental consulting services.
I use my knowledge of biology every day in my job and feel that I am quite knowledgeable in the subjects of general biology, cell biology, plant biology, and other related subjects.
My academic background is in biology (B.S.), ecology (M.A.), and health physics (M.S.). While in graduate school at UC Davis, I taught lab classes in general biology. At the time, I considered teaching as a profession after graduation.
Since then, I have been an environmental consultant in the area of ecology for over 28 years. I have been certified as a Senior Ecologist by the Ecological Society of America, a certification I have held and renewed since 1997.
I have been working with computers since 1986 beginning with a course in microcomputers (useless, I found out) and a part-time job entering data using MS Access. Since that time, I have used various office software programs, mostly MS, for my profession as an environmental consultant. Many software programs have been learned through intensive self-teaching for use on a particular project.
I am quite adept at trouble-shooting software problems, including Windows, IE, and most MS programs. Also, I have installed additional memory chips into my personal computer on two occasions now.
I have been using MS Excel for about 20 years in my environmental consulting experience. My job has led me to use Excel for creating small sortable databases, statistics, budget tracking, and calculations from within a sheet or between sheets or workbooks.
I am always learning something new about Excel and continue to use it in personal and professional applications.
I have been using MS Outlook in my employment since it was first released. It is my primary email provider and I am always striving to learn new shortcuts and tools for improving my efficiency with Outlook.
My current self-employment business requires professional emails and detailed organization, as well as scrupulous scheduling of personal and business appointments and tasks.
I have the knowledge and patience to teach others the benefits of Outlook in an enjoyable atmosphere.
In my career as an environmental consultant for the past 20-plus years, I have, at times, been a technical editor for my department. Now that I have been self-employed for more than nine years, I must ensure that my company's documents are perfectly and clearly written for our clients.
I am an excellent speller, have a large vocabulary, and show great attention to details. I have a vast amount of experience proofing references, as well as report text, for grammar, punctuation, readability, and cross-referencing.
I have extensive experience with statistics used in psychology and environmental data analysis. I am familiar with statistics packages embedded in MS Excel, as well as more sophisticated software such as the EPA ProUCL for environmental statistics.
I can provide clear descriptions of the essentials and processes for various statistical tests. Supplemental textbooks and other information can also be provided if it aids in understanding.
I have been preparing my own federal and state income tax returns, single and married, for many years. My forms include 1040, 8949, 2441, 8582, 2106, 4562, as well as Schedules A, B, C, D, E, and SE. I began filling out the returns by hand with a calculator until software became available. I own an environmental consulting firm and handle the accounting, as well as the tax preparation for the company.
One year, I was offered a job by H & R Block when I took my filed return in to be double-checked.
I enjoy math and am detail-oriented.
I have spent time explaining tax forms to my wife and my elderly parents. I would be happy to tutor others in tax preparation.
I have a great deal of knowledge and practical experience in the field of zoology. My academic training in the subject includes a B.S. in biology from Auburn University and a M.A. in zoology (ecology/animal behavior emphasis) from UC Davis. Also, I have been certified by the Ecological Society of America as a Senior Ecologist since 1997.
My work experience comes from numerous field positions studying animals throughout the US and in Costa Rica. Additionally, I have been an environmental consultant specializing in impacts to wildlife for the past 20 years.
