Hey there!

Everyone wants an online music production tutor that feels like they're in the same room. With me as your tutor and a software I subscribe to called Landr Sessions, this can be a reality! Landr Sessions is like Zoom, but we can both share our computer screens AND computer audio! This creates a truly one-of-a-kind tutoring experience that truly mimics the experience of being in the same studio. (We will use Wyzant and Landr side-by-side). Okay, onto the real introduction!

I'm a young, determined, self-taught music producer and mixing/mastering engineer with 7 years of knowledge and 4 years of professional experience. While studying music in at Westmont College in California, I became interested in producing my own music. Logic Pro X became my native tool for exploring these interests and I still use it and love it to this day. Years later, I'm now producing for myself (EmCee) AND multiple professional clients (Kieran Mckenzie Clark, Jordan Whitlock, Numertha, ect.) Portfolio: markcarlsonmusic.myportfolio.com

I know every single nook and cranny of Logic Pro X and would love to share my knowledge with you. Additionally, my passion for being self-taught will fuel my desire to help you become technically and musically independent as well. Whether it's composition, mixing, or mastering, I've got you covered.

There's one thing I believe sets a tutor apart from the rest: clear and helpful communication. I have a work background in customer service, so my tutoring approach is very personalized and tailored towards each person's learning style. I want to cater towards you and what you want out of this tutoring experience as much as possible!

I'd love to hear from you if it sounds like I'm a good fit for you.

With gratitude,

Mark

Composition (Music)

My interest in music composition began in high school when I purchased a ukulele. I wrote cute, small, and short songs. I enjoyed the process so thoroughly and had a knack for it, so I decided to minor in music in college with an emphasis on voice and music composition. Combining those two together and refining my skills via self-taught learning (mostly through YouTube), I have successfully written over 150 songs for various clients, the most notable being the 700 million views YouTube channel, 5MadMovieMakers.

Back in 2016, I was too poor to afford a digital camera. So I bought a film camera for $20 off eBay. Since then I've shot more than 50 rolls of film (1,300 frames). This laid a beautiful foundation for my photography journey because it taught me patience, stillness, and the fundamentals of good photography (composition, lighting, and passion for subject among more technical aspects like aperature, shutter speed, ISO, and metering) In 2017, I was able to purchase a Fujifilm X-T20 digital camera. Since then I've shot hundreds of thousands of still life and portraits. I look forward to working with you!

General Computer,

General Computer

Hi there! My name is Mark and I think I'd be a great tutor for anyone looking for general computer help. I minored in Computer Science in college, but more importantly I've spent most of my life investing time into learning computers, specifically Macintosh and Windows. I'm young, but I will explain everything to you on YOUR TERMS! If you're older and want simple and slow instruction, I can give you that. If you want to be fast and advanced, I'm there too! I'd love to help you excel on your computer journey. Whether we like it or not, they become larger parts of our life every day! Please reach out to me if you think I'd be a good fit for you. With gratitude, Mark
Macintosh,

Macintosh

Hi there! I've been using MacOS for about 11 years now since 2010. My friends and family often refer to me as their "unofficial Apple/Mac tech consultant" because I love helping them troubleshoot and learn more about their devices. My formal background in computers began in college when studied Computer Science as a minor, so you can rest assured that I know both what you see on the screen and what's happening behind the screen in computer code. I'd love to help you along the Macintosh journey wherever you are! If you're brand new, I am kind and patient and don't mind explaining things multiple times. If you're really looking to go advanced and improve your Mac workflow and speed, I can help with that too. I look forward to meeting you!
Microsoft Windows,

Microsoft Windows

I've spent the last 10 years learning both Mac and PC - part of which included studying computer science as a minor in college, but recently my desire to learn the ins-and-outs of a Windows machine led me to build my own Windows PC! Whether it's general computer literacy, general or specific software troubleshooting, or learning any of the Windows programs available out there, I've got you. Windows can be an intimidating operating system compared to Mac, but it's versatility, customizability, and depth is rewarding. Send me a message and let's get to work!

I'd love to be your next music production tutor! Here's a little background on me and my skills: Throughout my 60-credit Music Minor at Westmont College, I integrated technical aspects of music composition and music theory with what I was learning by myself on the side. My interest in Logic Pro X led me to learn music production for myself first, and now for many artists. Over the years, I have refined my skills and expertise in EDM electronic music, hip/hop trap, and modern/pop production as well as mixing and mastering techniques. After graduating college, I am now a freelancer for Coolfire Studios in Saint Louis, MO and have multiple producer gigs on the side. Overall, I have 7+ years of knowledge and experience and 4 years of professional work under my belt!

Mark is an amazing tutor!

I believe Mark is an extraordinary listener as well as a wonderful, gifted teacher who truly heard what I wanted and what I hoped to gain in competency! Yes, he is patient and respectful....important! Yet he heard what I hoped he could help me with...without judgment or conditional hurdles...he took me as I am and brought me into a better place of competency and competency with the computer skills I was longing to ask someone to assist me with....He was simply an answer to what I had hoped in a teacher to find for a long time coming! He is also a well-rounded, amazing human being that has not only enriched my computer competencies but inspired me as a human being, heart to heart! I am ever grateful to Mark! COMPETENT AND THOROUGH TUTOR

I studied Audio Recording software. He was clear, deep and patient. He commended the issue. I achieved a lot of progress, to such an extent that, over the past few weeks, I have been able to give advice to some colleagues a little prone to make mistakes in audio mixing.

Wonderful experience!

Extremely positive experience. I've taken several lessons with Mark. Mark is really helpful. He provided his first lesson as a free consultation. We talked about my music goals. Then he helped me with writing the accompaniment of my song! He knows how to guide you to create the music you want to make. We also learned about lots of interesting things like vocal processing and eq. He is really good at listening to your needs and make lesson plans according to them!

Mark was a Logic Pro expert as advertised.

In 15 minutes, Mark solved a Logic Pro problem that I'd been unable to solve in a week. We're going to continue learning the intricacies of Logic Pro starting in two days.
