About Gen

Hi I am Gen from Japan. I will put basic information of me and then put details here.

*came to America summer of 2014
* graduated from university May 2016
*Sociology major, Psychology Minor
*Assisted Japanese class from 2014 to 2016
*Established and maintained Japanese club

I always wanted to go outside of Japan and put me in adventures. I did not like studying English in middle school and high school because what school assigned to us was memorizing all vocabularies, idioms, and grammars. Of course, it was not fun at all unless you want good score on exams. However, when I enter college in Japan, I determined my mind to go study abroad. So I started studying English super super hard. Yes, I read textbook, wrote tons of essays, speak and listen to English Everyday. Also watched movies in English with subscript, Listened to Taylor Swift and Glee music. After 3 years, I scored 72 on TOEFL, so I finally became able to go America with enough English skills.

I have been in America since summer of 2014. I kept studying and playing hard for these two years. I maintained my GPA higher than 3.0 at all semesters but did not forget to have social and fun activities, like going to camp and skiing. I met friends there and established Japanese Club together to give opportunity interaction of domestic and international students. A couple of club members went Japan cup and got 2nd place.

I assisted Japanese classes for two years from introduction to intermediate. Therefore, I am familiar with common mistakes Japanese learner make and why and how they make them. The two major students types in Japanese class were either loves Japanese pop culture, like anime, or have Japanese relative. I am huge fun of anime, and love talking about Japanese tradition, custom and food. So, I can always provide best teaching material from your interest. Also, I have work experience in Japan, so I can teach you both friendly and polite Japanese.

Let us start communicating now. What we need to do now is to know each other and plan schedules. It's okay to hesitate contacting me, just put one sentence on your email like "I hesitate to send this" and send it to me. This will be great kickoff for you and me!!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Japanese

I am a native Japanese who speak, write, and listen to Japanese for entire my life. Also, I worked as an assistance for Japanese Class for two years. so I am familiar with all struggles that Japanese learners have and fun part of learning Japanese. Moreover, I also went through those phases when I studied English. So I can be a tutor, and Senpai, or buddy at the same time.
