About Ronald

I received a wonderful education in accounting at Colorado State University however I found there to be no substitute for real world experience. It was as a Division Controller within a Fortune 100 corporation where I truly learned Cost Accounting and it was as a CFO within Oregon State Government where I learned Governmental Accounting.

Later I became a consultant and I have implemented financial and enterprise systems and provided accounting and software services in Asia, Europe, Australia, North America and South America. As a consultant I attended meetings of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and I involved my organization and participated in the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT). I built the cost structure for all Texas Mental Health Hospitals, Schools for Mental Retardation and Texas Community Centers. I designed a method that allowed the US Marine Corps to value and control more than $14 Billion of assets it maintains at sea and I designed a method that allowed three coal-fired electric utilities to conform to both local and western requirements for reporting in Kazakhstan.

I have used my accounting degree for more than 40 years. I began as a Junior Accountant and then a Senior Accountant learning my fundamentals in a corporate headquarters environment. I was rapidly promoted in the same Fortune 100 corporation to be an Assistant Plant Controller and after only one year a Division Controller where I had responsibility for five corporate divisions with plants in four states. I left that corporation to be the first Corporate Controller for a Cable TV company with cable companies scattered across the nation and then was recruited from there to be the first CFO for the Oregon Department of General Services. After more than four years in government I became a consultant, supporting government clients all over the world. I represented my organization before the GASB and I ultimately became functional in a mix of different industry accounting methods. I have seen many processes and many methods of accounting internationally where I noted they have more in common than not.

My formative years were spent in Southern Connecticut where I developed a keen interest in our nation's founding. My interest is centered in the US Constitution, the power of government, state versus federal rights, individual rights. Moreover I have spent time in government and I have supported governments as a consultant. It is in these kinds of environments where you learn how things truly work.

I have been dropped into situations where I was the first Controller, the first Corporate Controller and the first CFO in each of my earlier positions. I had to use what I had learned to build whole departments. The thing I learned from each of these new responsibilities is that one need not be afraid of new subject matters. Attack problems logically and methodically. Visualize the issue at hand and do not accept that something cannot be done. Listen to the people who work for you. Learn from them. Read the theory. And logically attack the situation. For every person who takes the initiative there will be a dozen who will expect you, even want you to fail. Ignore the nay-sayers and recognize that whatever your current problem understanding the subject matter that what often stands between you and success is often a simple concept, a binder that will connect the seemingly unconnected theory that you have not yet found. I can help with this.
