As an artist, I am not only passionate about creating art, but also, teaching and promoting art. I believe art is integral in all phases of life and the learning of it provides the student with great observation and problem solving skills. I can help with drawing, painting and art history.
My artwork is primarily landscapes of Colorado and New Mexico and custom portraits. Influences include the Impressionists and Post-Impressionist as well as the Expressionists for their use of color. With that in mind, please do not consider me for abstract, as I have only experimented in that genre. As an artist, I am not only passionate about creating art, but also, teaching and promoting art. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a degree in fine art with a concentration in studio painting, however, I also took 13 art history courses and am currently enrolled in a Master of Humanities with a concentration in visual studies. My prior art history courses have included a wide selection of western art eras and genres. The courses I took include subjects such as Geek and Roman art, Medevil, Renaissance and Modern Art. My current program of study involves 19th century American art and it's use in framing a national identity.
I am a mature student who, in 2012, earned a BA in Fine Art with an emphasis in painting, graduating Summa Cum Laude, highest honors.
I am active In the artist community and regularly draw and paint to keep up my skills. Though I have not formally taught or tutored, my in-class experience includes active critiques and analysis where I learned to demonstrate my understanding of formal theory and structure. Through this process, we learn to teach and help each with areas needing work.
The studio art courses competed are:
Painting Methods and Materials
Paintint II - The Figure
Intermediate Painting I
Intermediate Painting II
It is this group of classes, along with my group participation in projects, critiques and outstanding performance that I believe makes me a candidate for tutoring painting.
My tutoring methods would involve locating the area the student requires help with and then a review of the foundations of that skill. I would then provide a demonstration as well as assisting the student to understand their strengths and weakness and replicating the task.
