About Jack

Bio

I started out working for Kaplan as both a tutor and classroom teacher, working with high schoolers preparing for the ACT. My students saw an average score increase of 5 points over their baseline test (national average for improvement is measured at about 3 points), with some students improving by 8 points. I thoroughly enjoyed working with high schoolers and helping them achieve their goals, allowing them to attend dream schools and go on to do wonderful things in life!

Regarding French, I studied five years through honors level-courses in school, and lived in France in 2019, fully immersed (lived with my French girlfriend and her kids, participated socially and volunteered in the community). I can tutor to language, culture, and also offer information regarding moving to France.

Beyond that, there are many other subjects I tutor to, as I'm fortunate to have lots of life experience and different careers, including 10 years in business, three years in film/TV, and two years creating practice tests for private educational groups in many areas.

I have a flexible schedule and love to help others. Please get in touch!

I spent three years working in film and television on both sides of the camera. Most of my professional work was as a 2nd Assistant Director, and Production Manager / Consultant for independent films.

I have about five years of dabbling in web development, and have worked with raw code in html and css, as well as WordPress with customizations. I have done some professional work for small businesses, as well as maintain a large ecommerce site. A brief portfolio of some of my work can be seen here: enlguy.github.io.
Music Production

Music Production

I grew up playing music, starting with clarinet at age 10, then playing alto saxophone for five years in the school marching, jazz, and main bands. I taught myself piano by way of having one in the house and knowing how to read sheet music and where "middle C" was located - I became quite proficient working on etudes and Beethoven pieces. I also taught myself guitar later. The last five years I have been playing around with composition and production on the computer using synthesizers and virtual instruments. I also enjoy playing with sampling and arrangement. I am able to work with students in multiple DAWs, but for the sake of courses, will use Caustic 3, as it is free and more intuitive, so a great place to start. For students with access to FL Studio, I am also able to tutor in that program. I can also work with students who would like to use midi keyboards and drum pad machines (most experienced with Akai products).
