Hi! My name is Karl, and I am currently a biochemistry PhD candidate studying enzyme and metabolic pathway evolution. Before starting my PhD, I graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Biochemistry with honors, a minor in Biotechnology, and a final GPA of 3.898. As an undergraduate, I was a teaching assistant for three semesters for an introductory course in biochemistry - during this time, I graded exams and helped teach problem sessions. This teaching experience helped me realize how uniquely everyone thinks, and how important it is to tailor your teaching style to each individual. As such, I prefer long-term tutoring situations (more than just one test prep session), and offer a free consultation meeting to make sure we are on the same page and to give me time to prepare any materials or brush up on any concepts for our first full session.

I have a total of two and a half years of tutoring experience spanning age ranges from 7 to 25 years old and subjects from basic math and reading all the way to organic chemistry and biochemistry. One year of this time was spent tutoring at an after-school program for primary school students. It was this experience that really showed me how much I enjoyed teaching and pushed me to become a teaching assistant as an undergraduate as well as tutor a student in chemistry II and organic chemistry. Although I enjoy teaching all age ranges, I have begun to specialize tutoring the subject matter closest to me, and now prefer working with students 16+ in the subjects of chemistry, biology, and biochemistry.

No man is an island, and I would not have gotten where I am today were it not for a tremendous amount of support from some phenomenal teachers along the way. I always aim to help others succeed and hopefully enjoy themselves along the way as I have. I have good internet connection, experience taking classes over Zoom, and can also meet in person on the weekends. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to schedule a lesson!

Well-Prepared and Very Helpful

Karl came ready to answer all my questions. He had notes prepared on the topics I was confused about. His explanations were really thorough and he even provided visual aids, like diagrams, to help me understand concepts. He made sure to focus on information that could be prevalent on my upcoming test. I feel much better about the ideas I was confused about and overall, I had a great session.
