Hello! Growing up in a house with a chemical engineer sparked my love and passion for science. I originally planned on using my science background to clean up water pollution from mining activities; however, I decided to become a high school teacher.

I have a very interdisciplinary science background which allows me to use examples from every day life in order to help students understand abstract scientific concepts. I also enjoy many hobbies: cooking, sourdough bread baking, coffee roasting, soap making, and vegetable fermentation which all involve chemistry. I love the outdoors and spend a lot of time camping and fly fishing. I enjoy tying my own flies and exploring Colorado and the west for all that it has to offer.
I have been teaching high school science for 20 years. I began my career at Kennedy high school in Denver Public schools and then moved on to Cherry Creek high school. I have been teaching teaching Advanced Placement (AP) chemistry and honors chemistry for most of my career. My teaching has always involved helping students on a 1:1 basis or even in small group settings so I have a wealth of tutoring experience. I also worked as a tutor for many years mainly tutoring college level chemistry students but also algebra and Spanish.

Some of my interest and hobbies that I could always help you with: Cooking, soap making, coffee roasting, camping, hunting, guitar, scuba diving

I enjoy working with people and seeing them grow. The moment when a student "gets" something is special. I am patient and have many different ways of explaining difficult concepts. I have a very Socratic approach to teaching which involves asking many questions in order to help independent thinking. I am a life-long learner and wish the same for my students. I always look for suggestions from students and parents about how to best help a tutee.

I welcome the opportunity to help you achieve whatever your goals might be. I can be flexible with my scheduling and my hourly rate.

Spanish

Spanish

I studied Spanish for four years in high school and also took a little in college. I married a woman from Mexico and we spent almost 20 years together. She did not speak English. Denver public schools approved me to teach science classes in Spanish. I took a reading writing and speaking test for them and scored a 4 1/2 out of five which put me at native speaker status. My son Brandon is bilingual and attends a bilingual school.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

As a scientist and science teacher I have used algebra quite extensively. Algebra is absolutely necessary for success in quantitative chemistry so it is a subject I know well. I have tutored students in math and also teach my students math during class if necessary.

Chess,

Chess

I learned how to play chess in seventh grade. It’s a game that I have loved all of my life mainly for the challenge. I have an extensive library of chess books which I used to improve the chess playing abilities of my club members. I play chess on a regular basis, and I am familiar with opening theory and endgame theory.
Cooking

Cooking

I grew up in a family of foodies, worked in multiple restaurants, and my parents owned 3 restaurants at one point. I have loved to cook since I was young. I am not afraid to do anything in the kitchen. I make my own sourdough bread from a culture of yeast I grew from organic grapes. I ferment my own vegetables to produce natural pickles. I also have used Japanese nuka pot techniques for pickling in rice bran. I have been roasting my own coffee for 20 years. This is all in addition to my every day cooking. I love to souse vide, air-fry, make espresso drinks, bake, saute, braise, grill, you name it. I can pretty much cook about anything out there. As someone with a science background, recipes are easy to follow. I understand a lot of the scientific concepts involved in cooking which also helps. I have worked in laboratories for years which also makes working in a kitchen second nature. Although I haven't brewed in a while, I did make my own beer for years and won many awards at local homebrew competitions. I am probably more passionate about cooking than anything else in my life.

Excellent Chemistry tutor with fast response time

Jeremy responded to my request for a Chemistry tutor for my daughter immediately and fit her into his busy tutoring schedule. He helped her prep for her honors Chemistry test. My daughter has met with him 3x already. He is a great tutor and understood and explained and clarified everything she was working on in class and in lab. We will be using Jeremy as her permanent Chem tutor going forward. Thanks Jeremy for your dedication as a teacher and a tutor!

Knowledgeable and Patient!

He is great at going with the pace that works with the student. He is very passionate about chemistry and explains complicated topics in very easy to understand and applicable ways. He lets the student lead the discussion so that you can get help specifically on what you need. I struggled with high school chemistry, and he has made college level chemistry crystal clear. The best tutor I’ve had!

Very knowledgeable and explains well

Mr. Jeremy teaches is a manner where he will guide you but not give you the answer right away. I think this is a wonderful teaching method as students come to the right conclusions on their own but will also have help along the way. This ensures that a student truly understands a concept and can build upon it. Mr. Jeremy also gives a ton of examples, I think this is amazing because I'm not stuck with the same basic examples.

Awesome tutor!

Jeremy worked with my daughter on high school chemistry. Not only was he very knowledgeable about his subject, but he is also a great teacher. He is able to make difficult subjects understandable and has a calm, easy manner which really helped my daughter’s confidence. We both liked him immediately and will be working with Jeremy on a regular basis. I would highly recommend him to others who need help with Chemistry. As my daughter stated following her first lesson, “ Now I understand it. I’m so glad we found him”.
