I finished my BA certain I would become a Literature and Writing professor, but by the time I finished my MA, my career as a technical writer was already taking off. Since then I have worked in all fields of tech writing except science and aerospace. I have written about software and hardware, developed entire Tech Pubs departments, set up (and converted) online help, administered entire SharePoint implementations, and revamped massive documentation sets and all the related processes and procedures. My field is a growing one full of variety and a rich environment for the organized thinker, language tinkerer, or avid writer. I am excited to help others enter this field or simply master a technical writing project. I worked for years in an on-campus "Writing Center" where I tutored all kinds of writers for any level of college or professional writing, including theses, research papers, business writing, and computer science publications. My secret job title is, "Professional Gate Opener."

I have almost two decades of professional writing experience that includes teaching English 101, working as a writer and project manager in startups as well as established, large Fortune-500 corporations. My familiarity with the standards, styles, and best practices of the professional business and technical writing industry make me your best coach and cheerleader, especially if you're tasked with the impossible, faced with resistance, or poorly equipped for a big job. I know shortcuts, time-saving tricks, workarounds, and most importantly, where to look things up.

This application is my go-to when more complex ones, such as web publishing, HTML, or online help applications, are not available. I have used it professionally to create and maintain massive, legacy documentation sets and to build and implement corporate document templates, both managed and unmanaged, in enterprise-level Microsoft-licensed companies. I have in-depth experience with its advanced functions, such as tagging, fields, style management, auto-numbering, embedded objects, and codependent paragraph styles. If you can't figure out why your document is behaving strangely, I can.

I am not an editor, I am a writing coach. If you want to up-level your skills, publish something amazing, or break into the field of Technical Writing, I'm your secret weapon. We can look at your document, site, or project in many ways: proofreading, substantive editing (what is it communicating and how?), style (look and feel), audience (who is your reader?), or user experience (what is it like to read your stuff?). Even if you're not sure where to start, we will figure it out together.
