Hey everyone, I'm Mike! I graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 2013 with an Bachelor's of Science in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in the qualitative and quantitative application of mathematics. While an undergraduate, I developed a passion for working with students through my work in residence life and immediately enrolled in graduate school after my time at Fredonia. This passion brought me to study College Student Personnel Administration at Canisius College, where I graduated with my Master's of Science in 2015.

While at Canisius College, I gained significant experience providing academic support through graduate-level internships at Medaille College and Stanford University. I was a Graduate Assistant in the Academic Support Center at Medaille, where I was responsible for the instruction of MAT 114 (Intermediate Algebra) and CHE 201 (General Chemistry) recitation sections, as well as the creation of weekly lesson plans, assessments, and activities. I also created a weekly workshop series which helped students develop other academic skills such as time management, note-taking strategies, and how to communicate effectively with an instructor. I was also responsible for training new professional tutors per the College Reading and Learning Association guidelines, which I also became certified through Level III. My tutoring experience at Medaille was primarily in a group setting, however, I also spent between 10-15 hours per week providing one on one tutoring as well for subjects including math, writing, and the sciences.

I have worked with all different types of students and developed the ability to first understand what success looks like to my students, and then working with them to leverage all available resources to help support them.

If you've ever had difficulty understanding something in class, let me tell you that everyone including myself can relate to that experience. Many of those same people have also been able to figure out the source of that disconnect and overcome those academic obstacles.
