About Kaylin

Hello! My name is Kaylin L. and I am a recent graduate of Carleton College. After getting my bachelor's degree in history and Russian, I was awarded a Fulbright grant to teach English in provincial Russia. Currently, I am employed by the University of Denver libraries as a Research Center Assistant and digital productions assistant.

My areas of expertise include:

Russian. I have completed four years of formal instruction in Russian, earning my bachelor's degree with distinction in Russian in 2015. I studied abroad in Russia for three months, during which time I completed 120 hours of advanced Russian at Moscow State University. During my time as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant, I studied Russian extensively with a private tutor for five hours weekly as part of a critical language grant from the US State Department. I am well versed in Russian history, culture, and literature.

English. I taught English as a Second Language at Murom Institute for the 2015-16 academic year. Currently, I volunteer as an ESL teacher at a local senior center, teaching English to speakers of Russian.

ACT/SAT tests. I received high scores on my ACT/SAT tests (31 and 1290, respectively) and am confident in my ability to help students prepare for these examinations.

History. I have a bachelor's degree in history, with a focus on Russian and early modern and modern Europe. I received a score of 5 on both the AP US History and AP European History exams. I focus not only on memorizing dates but on understanding historical patterns as a whole.

My philosophy: The role of a good tutor is to first understand the goals of the tutee and to adjust their teaching styles to fit the learning style of the student. I believe in open, honest communication and strive to inspire my students to find passion and excitement in learning. I am excited to share my love of languages, culture, and history with my students!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
