About Brooke

I am a new nurse in the Operating Room, but I am looking to help others more by providing tutoring services. I have received many academic honors throughout my education. In grade school and high school I was on the High Honor Roll, in college I received academic awards for being a top student-athlete, and I graduated nursing school with a 4.0 GPA. These successes are wonderful but I have more pride in that I have always had a heart to help others, especially when in comes to helping people reach their full potential in academics. Throughout my education, I have always been happy to aid my classmates along the way so that they can succeed to the best of their ability. I have always done informal tutoring for my friends and family members throughout my educational years, but have had formal experiences in tutoring as well. As a supplemental instructor for chemistry and peer tutor in nursing school, I have learned great strategies on how to increase students' overall confidence in class content. Although my top subjects are chemistry and nursing, I am also available to help with algebra. I am a very math and science based person and am open to helping in any subject I can.

In my pre-nursing college, Trinity Christian College, I was a supplemental instructor for general chemistry I and a hybrid general chemistry II, biochemistry, and organic chemistry class. In this role, I served as a primary resource for students to ask questions and seek help with their chemistry studies. I would hold office hours and study sessions for fellow classmates to attend to ask questions. I would provide lesson plans, practice problems, and practice exams for the students during these sessions. I would also serve as a private tutor to those requiring further tutoring needs. Since then, I have served as a private tutor to those taking chemistry. In nursing school, I was a part of the peer tutor program where I was paired with students that were struggling with class content and I would privately tutor them to help increase their confidence and grades. I mainly focused in subjects like nursing theory, health assessment, and pathophysiology.

I promise to treat each student in a unique manner by utilizing creative strategies, based on the student's learning style preference. I want to make learning enjoyable and easier for as many as I can. I hope to hear from passionate students that are looking to improve their academics!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Although I have not been in a formal tutoring position in algebra, I took it for many years throughout high school and tested out of taking it in college through exceptional scoring on a CLEP exam to receive credit. I have done informal private tutoring where I help students to understand the concepts being taught better and aid in helping them prepare for exams and complete assignments.

Chemistry

In high school I took both chemistry honors and advanced chemistry. In college I took general chemistry and a hybrid class of organic, biochemistry, and general chemistry II. While in these classes in college I served as the SI (supplemental instructor) for the class. This included holding office hours to review content, prepare practice exams and study lessons, and serve to answer any questions students had. I also would hold study sessions regularly during the week and hold longer sessions before exams. I was the overall resource for the students to come to with questions and concerns on class subjects, aside from the professor. Since then, in the past few years, I have served as a private tutor for chemistry.

Nursing

I graduated this past May 2016 with a 4.0 GPA from Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing located in Peoria, IL. There I was a participant in the peer tutor program where I would provide tutoring services to those in the nursing program. I tutored mainly in nursing theory, pathophysiology, and health assessment.
