Hello, I'm Amanda!

I am currently entering into my 5th year as a special education teacher. However, I have been tutoring students with varying abilities for over 7 years in both an after school setting as well as private lessons. In 2013, I was nominated for the Sue Lehmann Excellence in Teaching and Learning through the Teach For America organization. In my free time, I am passionate about whole food cooking, hiking with my golden retriever, Harlow, and reading as many books as I can!

I enjoy 1:1 and small group tutoring because I have witnessed that, sometimes, it just takes a little individualized instruction to give a student the confidence and skill foundation they need to start excelling in the classroom! During my sessions, I try to build in as consistent structure to the lesson (so we can accomplish our objectives!) while also including as much student choice as possible. I take a strengths based approach and strongly believe that the most important mindset I can nurture in my students is a love of learning.

My subject specialty is elementary common core math (I am familiar with all K-8 standards) and I also have extensive experience in working with students who struggle with reading fluency and reading comprehension. My favorite reading intervention program is Wired For Reading. If you have a student who has been diagnosed with Dyslexia, is an English Language Learner, or struggles with speech articulation, I highly recommend checking this program out. I really enjoy helping students of all learning styles realize that everyone can learn and succeed!

Thank you for taking the time to invest in your student's learning! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or to schedule a free consultation meeting.

*I am currently relocating with my partner from Seattle, WA to Denver this July! I will be available to begin tutoring sessions in the Denver area beginning July 15th.*

I’ve been an Elementary Reading Interventionist for 2 years primarily working with students with learning differences (SLD, EBD, Autism, Articulation/Communication Disorders, Dyslexia) as well as English Language Learners. I’ve have fantastic results using a program called Wired For Reading that focuses on using engaging stories and games to strengthen basic phonics, spelling and vocabulary skills. Most importantly, it’s meticulously scaffolded so students feel successful and grow to love reading and spelling!

As a 4th year special education teacher I believe I am highly qualified in specific strategies unique to helping students who struggle with study skills be successful in school. For example, many of these students need extra assistance and instruction on executive functioning skills. Furthermore, helping the student learn their personal learning style will be important for them in their academics.

I am in my fourth year as a special education teacher. However, I have had over 10 years experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum in various settings. I employ strategies specific to the student's unique learning needs since no two individuals with autism are alike! I am also CPI (crisis prevention institute) certified.

Fun and patient.

Initially, my nephew thought he would hate tutoring, but he loves working with Amanda. She is knowledgeable, patient and makes learning fun! He's clearly doing better with his reading and writing.
