About Tabor

I started tutoring before graduating, and now have four years of tutoring experience with students from all over the world. I work with students of all levels, from basic arithmetic to the most abstract topology. With a double major in theoretical mathematics and behavioral science, I have the understanding and techniques to help you succeed.

I have taken the following college courses which I am available to tutor: Trigonometry; Calculus I, II & III; Differential Equations; Logic; and Linear Algebra. These subjects are high school level, and were heavily reinforced in college. Having studied developmental psychology and group dynamics as well, I can help you or your student find methods tailored to your learning style.

I also took the following courses which I do not tutor but may have some bearing on our work. So feel free to ask any questions which occur to you: Advanced Calculus; Topology; and Programming with Mathematica.

Born and raised in Colorado, I love the outdoors and exploration. Hiking, camping, biking, unicycling, the odd juggling session, and our mountain sunsets all give me a chance to enjoy fresh air. Sometimes, even tutoring, when I can find a good spot with a local student. As an entrepreneur, I've worn many hats, like game designer, with one Kickstarted game called dV: the game of spatial combat. It's a three dimensional game, with elements from chess, checkers, go, and science fiction.

I do street performances around Denver, earning the occasional tip, heckle, or smile. With a local staging company, I work on major concerts as a stagehand and I'm training to be a rigger (the guys who make sure the giant stacks of speakers and lights don't fall on anyone). You'll find I'm just as happy at work as at home, since I always find interesting work.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

Pursuing a math degree requires algebra every step of the way, so I've had years of practice with it. I tutored many students online, as it is one of the first subjects students consistently struggle with. Additionally, I apply my courses in behavioral science to my teaching techniques to approach the student in several different ways.

Differential Equations

I took Differential Equations from Dr. Linda Sundbye at MSU Denver. I struggled on the first test but applied myself harder and harder, and passed with a B. It's not my best subject, but one that I worked exceptionally hard to master. I usually ended up tutoring people in the mathematics lab, since there were no tutors available for the subject.

Geometry

Basic geometry was one of the earliest forms of advanced mathematics, & comes up constantly in modern math classes. Though I did not complete any college courses on the subject, it is foundational to most of my work. I studied it independantly, as it is also a personal favorite. I've tutored elementary geometry online, & persued more advanced topics in group study.

Linear Algebra

I started tutoring with an online service before graduating, and now have four years of tutoring experience with students from all over the world. I work with students of all levels, from basic arithmetic to the most abstract topology. With a double major in theoretical mathematics and behavioral science, I have the understanding and techniques to help students succeed.

I took Linear Algebra at MSU Denver with Dr. Mona Mocanasu in 2013.

Logic

I took Introduction to Advanced Mathematics with Dr. Diane Davis at MSU Denver in 2012. It was a strange course for me, as I still was only getting a math minor at the time. It felt like a lot of little video game puzzles at first, and I struggled to help my friends with their own work. But by the end of the course, having gained some fluency in mathematics, I found myself helping friends, comparing solutions, and presenting mine in class.

Trigonometry

I graduated from MSU Denver with a double major in theoretical mathematics and behavioral science. The ways people learn, interact and share ideas fascinates me, & I'm preparing to study data science at a local technical school.
