I believe that everyone can benefit from academic mentoring by a kind, caring individual. Each person brings gifts and encounters challenges, and it is my goal to uncover a love for learning while nurturing a growth mindset. I specialize in helping children and adults reach their potential through skill and confidence building. I bring my entire set of skills and attention to the vocation of mentoring and teaching you or your child.
I come from a family of teachers. My academic training includes a BA in History and a MA in Social Sciences. I worked in higher education the past 5 years, including lecturing at Colorado School of Mines and consulting small student groups with senior projects. Additionally, I have taught K-12 as a substitute teacher, coached elementary age soccer and high school cross-country, and volunteered with organizations serving developmentally disabled youth. My training in psychology and related disciplines gives me the ability to quickly assess personality and strengths to tailor my sessions with you or your child. Education and mentorship are my passions, as well as all the good things Colorado has to offer outside and inside - backpacking, skiing, cycling, and yoga.
I was a biology major for 2 years in college, so I have a deep understanding of biology. I also have graduate level coursework in psychology under my belt. Science is fascinating and so applicable to our internal and external experience. I love sharing that passion and curiosity with students. Test taking is an art, and a science. I know how to provide support in both test taking techniques as well as building up a breadth of knowledge that is essential for succeeding on standardized tests.
I excelled in this area of the test myself, and have a high level of reading competency, comprehension, and application. Once again, test taking is a bit of an art, and I can help you learn the tricks of the trade, as well as help build up your knowledge and confidence in this area.
I took AP European History in high school, and I have BA in History. I have studied all the subjects within social studies extensively in my BA and MA, including geography, sociology, government, economics, psychology, and of course history.
In addition to content area tutoring, I really excel at teaching healthy and successful study habits. This comes in the form of Academic Coaching to help you get organized and manage your time wisely, as well as teaching mindfulness techniques for focus in the classroom, while studying, and during exams. Please contact me with any questions at all. I hope to meet you soon! I believe that everyone can benefit from academic mentoring by a kind, caring individual. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
