Hi, my name is Georgia. I am a first grade teacher here in Denver and certified in Elementary Education EC-6. I have been teaching for four years, and tutoring for six. I specialize in reading tutoring, but am also capable of tutoring in cross curricular subject areas. I know what students need to succeed. I can help students and parents meet their goals, whether that is to catch up, stay on track, or get ahead of grade level.
I approach math tutoring from a variety of angles. I am a proponent of hands on manipulatives and finding new and creative ways to teach abstract concepts.
As a first grade teacher, my students come to me reading on a DRA level 1-3 and exit reading on a DRA level 16 or higher. I am able to target a student's exact needs and have vast knowledge about the process of learning to read. I ensue a love of reading and encourage students to view reading as a precious and valuable time!
I studied Elementary Education in undergrad, and have practically applied my knowledge for the past four years. I constantly find new and unique ways to teach the skills needed to succeed in school. I am a tutor and a teacher that does not approach a problem from one angle, but is always adjusting to meet the needs of each individual student.
Phonics lays the groundwork for literacy success. With my experience, certification, and formal four year training, I know what kids need in order to be successful with reading.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied Elementary Education at Southern Methodist University. I am a certified Texas teacher, EC-6. After teaching in Texas for two years at a Title 1 charter school, I relocated to Denver, Colorado. I am in my fourth year teaching first grade at an ACIS credited independent school in Northwest Denver.
Phonics is one of the most important subject areas to master as a first grade teacher. I took extensive coursework on elementary literacy in my undergrad schooling. Further, my practical experience and success rate as a teacher for the past four year makes me qualified to teach phonics.
