About Kat

I'm a fresh graduate from the University of Iowa's English department, and I love talking about language and writing with anyone who will listen. I've spent the past six years of my life writing essays and proofreading both my own work and the work of my friends, so I know the qualities that make a piece of writing great, and I can spot the things that need work.

I believe the most important goal to aim for in editing is balanced feedback. I'm comfortable pointing out every error or misstep, but I find just as much value in figuring out what the piece is doing right. After all, there's no use knowing what's not working unless you understand how to improve it!

I'm happy to meet students on campus or online. I charge $40/hour; Monday and Tuesday mornings are my best availabilities, but I'm flexible, so contact me for more information!

I was a part of twelve creative workshop classes over my undergraduate career, along with dozens of other English courses with emphasis on writing, so I've had ample experience with both broad feedback and line edits.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
