I'm a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Go big red!), from which I graduated with Honors and a Bachelor's degree in Journalism. Additionally, I earned concentrations or minors in English, Spanish and History.
I come from a legacy of teachers. My mother, many aunts, my sister have all been teachers at some point. Although I've never been a formal teacher, the past six years I have worked for a nonprofit, which has provided many one-on-one and classroom teaching experiences for me. For three years, I led small group Bible studies on college campuses and mentored students one-on-one, with an emphasis on teaching them how to teach others. For four years, I have been training and teaching new hires and leaders in our organization and college students at various conferences.
I'm interested in tutoring in order to gain more teaching experience and to share the subjects I love with young minds. Learning is so important and shapes how we see the world!
I grew up speaking English; however, my second language is Spanish. Much of my family speaks only Spanish, and my mother was a Spanish teacher. Additionally, I earned a minor in Spanish in college and studied it for 8 years. I feel comfortable teaching basic Spanish.
English and literature are my great loves. I have a strong grasp of the Classics and am constantly reading in order to dive deeper into the world of literature. Earning a degree in Journalism, grammar, writing and language were important components to master. I feel comfortable teaching most levels of English and Literature.
I would love to work with you or your student! My rate is $40/hour and evenings and weekends are best. Please contact me with any questions! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
