About Jason

I am currently a senior at CU-Boulder with a 3.5 GPA seeking a degree in Math Education. I have tutored off and on for over 15 years. My philosophy on tutoring in math is to get the student to reach the understanding of math concepts in their own terms.

I do not believe in giving simple answers to students or doing the work for them. I believe when a student understands why math works the way it does, then the student understands math concepts better. Lastly, I give students the skills to learn math in different ways to help them move past difficult concepts.

In the fall of 2015, I had a teaching practicum at Boulder High School where I assisted 3 times a week in a Geometry class and taught some classes as well.

I also have been an AVID tutor at Boulder High School for a semester, which involved tutoring various subjects. I have tutored a variety of students ranging from Middle School Math to Calculus, as well as other subjects at times.

I am currently a part of the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program. I am on a Teacher Research Team that is conducting a study on group work in High School math and physics classrooms. Contact me for one session and see the difference. I try to bring in as much real world examples to help understand math better.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
