My experience & background can best be described as Art Director & Mentor to an art department staff of younger artists with various degrees of skill sets & experience (ages 21-45). My approach with our classes together will be to discover & build on your obvious strengths & help improve on any weaknesses you may have that we both find & agree on together. Whatever you want to explore, I will coach you in a very collaborative way in order for you to discover your untapped skills. My father was a high school teacher & he taught me to be patient & not assume anything with your students. Let them discover their strengths & help them not get discouraged. My goal is to let you surprise yourself & find joy in discovery. Unlocking potential makes me feel good, like I'm giving back something that was taught to me.
The way we set up a class together will be totally up to you. Any subject matter you want to explore is fine with me too. My client background has been mostly "pop culture" related; Music, Entertainment, Films & all Sports. If these happen to be your interests, even better - but I'm very open to let you run with anything. My approach is to not just watch me, but I want you take the pencil, pen, paintbrush or mouse. The only way you learn is to not be afraid to make mistakes. Happy accidents are encouraged!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've been drawing for over 30 years. I will teach you to interpret what you see and transfer that vision to paper in any style you want. Realistic or stylized, as long as it's your vision, I will help you improve through time. I will use the same methods that were taught to me. Not everyone is at the same level. There is no wrong way to learn. Experienced in any medium you choose, I can also help you enhance your creations on the computer. When I was an Art Director, I let my staff explore their own strengths and weaknesses. The more you draw, the better you will get.
I worked as a professional graphic designer in design studios, ad agencies and in-house art departments for 30 years.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from the California College of the Arts in Oakland, California.
My experience as an Art Director and mentor to an inexperienced younger staff gave me a great background in teaching new skills, technique, approach and keeping a great attitude when a student is frustrated.
